2008 - What a long strange year it’s been!

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 29 - 2008 6 COMMENTS

Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, liberals and moderates can all agree that 2008 was an interesting year, to say the least. Who would have thought the New York Football Giants would have bested the New England Patriots in the Superbowl? If you thought that would be the strangest thing to happen this year you don’t follow politics too closely.

2008 kicked off in the midst of the Presidential primary season. Democrats bickered over who cared more about the impoverished and who wanted our troops out of Iraq sooner. Republicans went back and forth, each claiming to be the most conservative, while Republican voters kept wondering how they could channel Ronald Reagan. Read the rest of this entry »

Who Should be Kicked Out of the Republican Party?

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 17 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

Colin Powell recently called Sarah Palin polarizing and blamed Rush Limbaugh for Republican woes. John McCain refused to say whether he would support Sarah Palin in 2012. Christopher Buckley and Colin Powell openly supported Barack Obama, the most liberal US Senator. One has to wonder who McCain voted for. Who do you think should get the boot by the Republicans?

New RNC Ad Blasts Obama for Ties to Blago

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 15 - 2008 1 COMMENT

Of course, the RNC is being criticized for this ad and not surprisingly John McCain’s joined the chorus of critics. Here’s my question, why would Blago curse Obama for not going along with his pay to play scheme if Obama never know about it? Wouldn’t Obama need to know about it to refuse to participate?

The Irony of Bailouts and Politics

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 4 - 2008 6 COMMENTS

At least one sector of the US economy was booming this year. While the economic downturn has hit everything from Wall Street to Motor City, one big business has done quite well - politics.

John McCain and the Republicans spent about $550 million in the general election. Not bad when times are tough.

Barack Obama and the Democrats were the big winners, raising an estimated $847 million dollars. In fact, the Obama campaign raised so much money they couldn’t spend it all in time, so his staffers received bonuses of a whole month’s salary.

It wasn’t just the Presidential campaign that had money pouring in. Congressional Democrats received hundreds of millions of dollars from the UAW and US auto companies.

The unions and auto companies weren’t alone in their big contributions to Democrats. Wall Street was right there with them. It seems that everyone receiving or begging for taxpayer dollars today was mighty generous to the Dems over the past few months.

Now our elected officials are about to fork over billions more to people who earn far more money than the average taxpayer. If that’s not bad enough, those of us who would never send a dime to a Democrat will be sending billions to the companies that helped get those Democrats elected.

Talk about irony.

A Lesson for Conservatives

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 2 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

It’s time for conservatives (and Republicans, too) to take stock of the Bush Presidency so we can learn from history. Otherwise, the conservative movement is in a lot of trouble.

President Bush did many things right. He’s kept us safe since 9/11 and adhered to his principles when it comes to the war on terror. He lowered taxes and appointed Justices Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court. But we also must look at what President Bush did wrong or history is bound to repeat itself.

Philip Klein, writing for the American Spectator, has put together a thoughtful critique of President Bush’s record, Learning from the Bush Legacy. This should be read not just by pundits and politicians, but also by conservative voters who participate in the primary process. We can’t keep nominating liberal Republicans, or Republicans who have difficulty communicating a conservative message. Read the rest of this entry »

John McCain - Leaps Across the Aisle

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 25 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

John McCain wasted no time after his electoral defeat by Barack Obama to reach across the aisle. According to Senator Harry Reid, Obama and McCain have come to an agreement on immigration. Read story at HotAir.com. At least now McCain can stop pretending to be a conservative. The rest of us better start taking Spanish lessons.

News Roundup

Moderate Democrate John Dingell’s out as Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Henry Waxman’s in, which doesn’t bode well for the business community.

John McCain and Barack Obama met earlier this week. I was thinking “Now McCain can go back to being a Democrat.” Apparently, I wasn’t the only one thinking that.

Barack Obama has named Tim Geithner as his pick for Treasury Secretary and Bill Richardson for Commerce. The market reacted positively. Whether that holds up next week is unknown. Didn’t Geithner have a hand in the bailout of AIG?

There may be a rift between Nancy Pelosi and the new adminstration. It’s been reported that Obama supports a pre-packaged bankruptcy for the US automakers (who reject the idea), while Pelosi says bankruptcy should be taken off the table. This could be interesting.

It’s almost official, Hillary Clinton will be our next Secretary of State. I wonder who will take her place in the Senate. I need a Tagamet.

Sarah Palin pardoned a turkey and during a post-pardon interview another turkey met his maker. I don’t understand the big deal. Where do people thing their Thanksgiving turkeys come from?

Five million people are expected to descend on Washington DC for Barack Obama’s inauguration. Why does the thought of 5 Million people in one place conjure up images of the Super Dome after Hurricane Katrina? All I can say is “Good luck, folks.”

The Future of the GOP

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 21 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

The direction of the Grand Ole Party remains a mystery. If the Republicans’ future performance is anything like their performance over the past 8 years, we’re in trouble. Hopefully they’ve learned the lesson.

This morning Michael Steele filled in for Bill Bennett on Morning in America. He can’t believe how Republicans have allowed the Democrats to co-opt the founder of the Republican Party, Abraham Lincoln. What a great point! I doubt most Americans have any idea Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. Most Americans don’t even know that Democrats have controlled Congress for the last two years.

Bret Prelutsky (one of my favorite columbists) isn’t too optimistic about the future of the GOP. Read the rest of this entry »

Praising Capitalism

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 14 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

I’m so happy I wasn’t the only one who noticed the way the Dow shot up after George Bush’s speech praising capitalism. Larry Kudlow noticed, too.

Here’s one of several great passages from Bush: “At its most basic level, capitalism offers people the freedom to choose where they work and what they do … the dignity that comes with profiting from their talent and hard work. … The free-market system also provides the incentives that lead to prosperity - the incentive to work, to innovate, to save and invest wisely, and to create jobs for others.”

In other words, free-market capitalism is the best path to prosperity.

Where has this George Bush been hiding? Maybe the Republicans should have had him out giving speeches like this one before the election. Heck, it couldn’t have hurt. It may even have helped to stabilize the markets. Read the rest of this entry »

Don’t let them demoralize you, America!

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 4 - 2008 4 COMMENTS

For the past eight years the left and the media have been trying to demoralize American citizens so the left can regain power. Don’t let them do it.

For the past eight years President Bush has been demonized. Some Americans seem to believe that Bush is the devil himself.  Even when President Bush has gone against conservatives and worked with the opposition party (expanding Medicare, increasing foreign aid, No Child Left Behind, ie) he’s still villified.

When we sent our military overseas to fight the war on terror our Commander in Chief was ridiculed, mocked and disparaged. When the war was going badly we heard about it every day. Now that we’re winning the war there’s nary a mention.

When the economy was strong we were told it was awful and we needed change. A demoralized nation voted for change and change came in the form a new Congress. Two years later the economy is faltering, due to the policies of the left, yet they tell us we need even more change. How much more of this change can we handle? Read the rest of this entry »

Clear Choice - A Known Leader vs. A Complete Stranger

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 3 - 2008 26 COMMENTS

In these dangerous times we need a proven leader in the White House. The economy is shaky and our enemies in the world still long for our destruction. Yet the war in Iraq is going well, we are winning. The economy has not collapsed, but there are some rough days ahead. Things could be much worse than they are today. This is not the time to punish an unpopular party. As the PUMA’s keep saying “Country before Party”.

The candidate with a record of reaching across the aisle to work with the other party is not Barack Obama. That man is John McCain. In the same spirit, as Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin also has a record of working with both parties in order to get things done. Joe Biden has no such record.

Barack Obama is a one term senator with no executive experience. What has he led, other than his campaign and the flock of Sheeples blindly following him? How is the party that set about destroying President Bush from the moment he took office going to be bipartisan? They’re idea of unity is complete power, sticking their collective thumb in the eye of at least half the country that disagrees with them. Read the rest of this entry »

Go Ahead Obama, Show Us What You Really Think

Barack Obama congratulates John McCain for his service to our country and the tough campaign he has fought. He then appears to flip him the bird. Just another Freudian slip?

Obama Camp - “McCain’s Outspending Us!”

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 2 - 2008 11 COMMENTS

I laughed out loud when I read the most recent email from the Obama campaign. This one came from Marianne Markowitz, his CFO. She said that John McCain’s been saving his money so he can outspend Obama in this final weekend of the Presidential election campaign. Read the rest of this entry »

I Am An American

Posted by Allen Wilson On November - 1 - 2008 1 COMMENT

I am an American and I want change.
I want to fix the good things that are broken not throw them away.

I am an American and I have hope.
I believe in the future and I don’t believe someone else has the right to tell me what that future should be.

I am an American and I help my fellow man.
I give my time and my money my way to help others regardless of gender, race, religion, or nationality.

I am an American and I stand tall in the world.
I know what America has given the world.

I am an American and I can think for myself.
I can tell the difference between words and actions.

I am an American and I expect to be held accountable.
I don’t expect someone else to pay for my mistakes, raise my family, or pay my bills.

I am an American and I am patriotic.
I pledged an oath to protect my country and I backed it up with my blood and my treasure.

I am an American and I have a choice.
I choose John McCain.

America - Are you finally waking up?

Barack Obama has enjoyed a nice lead in the polls for quite some time. He’s been the ultimate stealth candidate. But his slips, and those of his surrogates seem to be catching up to him. Tonight’s headline on Drudge Report is giving those of us on the right a sigh of relief.

ZOGBY SATURDAY: McCain outpolled Obama 48% to 47% in Friday, one day, polling. He is beginning to cut into Obama’s lead among independents, is now leading among blue collar voters, has strengthened his lead among investors and among men, and is walloping Obama among NASCAR voters. Joe the Plumber may get his license after all…

America, I know you’re busy. So am I. But this is the most important election in any of our lifetimes.

Is the American political system a mess? Yes! Absolutely! But are we going to turn our country over to the most liberal politician in America today, with no reigns? Please, for the sake of our children, let the answer be “no!” Just say no!

Let’s start paying attention. Let’s hold our politicians accountable. John McCain promised to name names, and if he doesn’t we’ll hold his feet to the fire. But please, America, think about what you are doing when you step into the voting booth on Tuesday. This is not an issue of Democrat vs. Republican. This is an issue of freedom vs. servitude.
