Rethinking Caroline Kennedy

Posted by Lonely Conservative On January - 5 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

A new poll shows Andrew Cuomo has a 20 point lead over Caroline Kennedy in a poll of likely New York Democratic voters. This turn of events is making me rethink my opposition to Princess Caroline. People loved her when she was out of the spot light. The more they see of her the less they like.

A New York Senate seat is sure to bring the Princess much attention, which will only hurt her chances at winning the election in 2010. So my fellow Republicans, let’s all write to Governor Paterson and tell him he should appoint the Kennedy heir to the Senate. She could personally rebuild the New York State Republican Party!

Help Wanted - US Senator, Qualifications - None

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 9 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

Okay, there is one qualification for the job of junior Senator from New York: last name.

The Kennedy’s are lobbying hard for Governor Paterson to appoint Caroline Kennedy to Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. Rumor has it that Ted Kennedy contacted Paterson and told him Caroline would be the natural selection because “Ms. Kennedy - backed by the Kennedy family’s extensive fund-raising network - would have the wherewithal to run back-to-back costly statewide races…”

Is this New York or Illinois? Regardless, I don’t see how another Senator Kennedy would bring about change we can believe in.

A tale of two cities

Posted by Lonely Conservative On September - 15 - 2008 1 COMMENT

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said New York City is well positioned to weather the economic storm caused by the Lehman Brother’s bankruptcy. It isn’t that he doesn’t recognize the challenges that lay ahead, but he understands the way the economy works.

Earlier today, Obama’s campaign attacked John McCain for saying that the fundamentals of the US economy are strong. Ben Smith at Politico asked Mayor Bloomberg if he agrees with John McCain’s assessment.

“I do agree that fundamentally America has an economy that is strong,” he said. “America’s great strength is its diversity, its hard work, its good financial statements, its broad capital markets, its enormous natural resources” and its work ethic, he said at an afternoon press conference devoted to reassuring New Yorkers that the city’s finances and its economy are intact.

“I’d rather play America’s hand than any other country,” he said.  “Without problems? No.”

Compare Mayor Bloomberg’s comments to those of New York Governor David Paterson. While I applaud the fact that Governor Paterson is lifting some restrictions to help AIG stay afloat, I have to take issue with some of his statements.

He called on the federal government to aid AIG.

“Like all New Yorkers, I’m deeply concerned about the fiscal crisis . . . This is a very serious situation,” Paterson said.

Asked how many jobs could be lost in financial services, Paterson said the “worst-case scenario” was 30,000.

Calling on the federal government to aid AIG!?! Does he think the US government is one big money tree? I know they’ve acted that way recently, but enough is enough. The American taxpayer can’t afford to bail out any more failing companies. That only makes matters worse in the long run. And why would he give a worst case scenario for job losses? He went on to say it probably wouldn’t be that bad, but it sounds to me like he’s just trying to create panic.

Governor Paterson sounds just like Barack Obama, Joe Biden and the other doom and gloom Democrats. It’s one thing to recognize a problem, it’s quite another to incite hysteria.

Although Mayor Bloomberg is no longer a Republican, he understands the economy and isn’t out there making matters worse for political gain.

What a long, strange week it’s been!

This week was off to a bad start when the taxpayers were forced to bailout Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. If that weren’t bad enough, we had to listen to Barack Obama saying that wealth re-distribution is neighborly. It was one of those moments when I cocked my head, furrowed my brow and thought “Did he just say what I think he said?”

Things only got kookier as the week went on. Barack Obama made his “lipstick on a pig” and “stinky fish wrapped in paper” comments, which he said had nothing to do with Sarah Palin. That’s odd, because his audience started chanting “No pit bull!”

It wasn’t just Obama acting bizarre. Joe Biden told a man in a wheel chair to stand up. No wonder he said Hillary should have been Obama’s running mate.

To honor the victims of 9/11 Keith Olbermann released a venom filled rant against politicians he dislikes. Then Charlie Gibson literally looked down his nose at Sarah Palin while accusing her of hubris. Can’t wait for Part 2!

New York Governor David Paterson said “community organizer” is code for “black” and Barack Obama said “mayor” is code for “trash man.”

During the 9/11 forum Barack Obama declared that the concept of limited government is passe and we need to look to the future. He promised to extend the reach of the federal government into all aspects of our lives.

Barack Obama’s campaign released a new ad today making fun of old people. That should go over really well with the “most likely to vote” crowd.

Today Barack Obama, a’la his ‘new politics’ vowed to start hitting back and hitting hard. Does he mean he’ll bring a knife to a gun fight or a gun to a knife fight? And to top it all off, Whoopie Goldberg asked John McCain if she’ll be a slave again if he’s elected President. Wow! And she doesn’t look a day over sixty.

Come to think of it, John McCain and Sarah Palin are among the few this week who didn’t seem like total weirdos.

Governor Paterson-You can’t have it both ways

Posted by Lonely Conservative On August - 11 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS
Governor Paterson suffered a lapse from liberal philosophy last week when he called on the state to cut spending. All of you liberals who are disappointed in, worry not, he has reverted back to form.

In his recent op-ed in the Washington Post, the accidental Governor has called on the federal government “to help all states navigate an economic crisis”. He insists that the federal government must pass a “second stimulus package that includes investments in our nation’s infrastructure” and other short term stimulus investments like paying people’s heating bills for them this winter.

His op-ed slamming the Bush Administration and the federal government for wasteful spending, while pleading with the federal government for more spending came one day after his press release congratulating the President and Congress for passing the Foreclosure Relief Act.

Which is it Governor? Are you for or against reckless government spending?
