It’s Going to be a Long Four Years

Mr. Obama was late for his first press conference as President elect. After mocking Nancy Reagan, he was asked about whether he still plans to raise taxes on the rich. Naturally, he skirted the question and talked about trickle up economics, more stimulus packages and tax cuts for 95% of Americans.

When asked about National Security and foreign policy he went into his “Er, Ah” mode. Surprisingly, he seemed to show a hint of respect for President Bush. Gee, maybe the job isn’t quite as easy as he thought it would be.

Mr. Obama proclaimed there is only one President at a time in the US, which made me wonder why he immediately put up his Change.gov website, “Office of the President-Elect.” Check it out. You’ll see that he wants gas prices to go back up, but that’s okay because he’ll send us all a $1,000 welfare check.  In fact, if he does all the things promised it won’t matter, our government will go completely belly up in the first one hundred days.

The most interesting plan proposed in Change.gov is a carry over from his campaign platform. The one forcing our children into involuntary servitude. The last time I checked, volunteerism was voluntary. I guess that’s going to change.

Update!!! The “service” page this post links to has been changed, from requiring community service of children from middle school on up, to “calling for” service. There’s a big difference. Unfortunately, I didn’t save a screen shot. Radarsite has a direct quote and you can read it here.

Update 2: To see the original version of the Change.gov web page click here. For more on this topic, click here.

$1.26

My husband and I received a letter from our church, celebrating our upcoming ten year wedding anniversary. Fortunately, the good times have outweighed the bad. In fact, our life is much better than it was 10 years ago. We bought a newer old house and we have two healthy boys. We both have good jobs and other than being a little bit tired we are living “happily ever after.”

Attached to the letter from our church was a “News of the Past” page prepared especially for us. In 1998 the Broncos beat the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII and the New York Yankees swept the San Diego Padres in the World Series.

In 1998 the price of a gallon of gas was $1.26!

Today I drove past a gas station whose advertised price of a gallon of gas was $3.79. If we elect a drill-nothing Democrat Congress and a drill-nothing Democrat President I guess it’s safe to assume that by the time our 20 year anniversary rolls around we’ll be paying about $11.34 per gallon.

Let’s not let that happen.

What a Gas!

On my way home from Auburn, NY this afternoon I spotted a Quick Fill gas station selling gas for $3.96 per gallon! Luckily my tank was almost empty and I had to fill up. I noticed an older gentleman at the next pump because he had a great big smile on his face. I must have been smiling, too, because he came up to me and said “This is the best price I’ve seen! I just came in from Rochester and everyone was over $4.00″. I said “I know, that’s why I stopped here, but isn’t it crazy that we’re so happy about paying $3.96 per gallon?” He just shook his head and laughed.

GOP Revolt on the House Floor!

According to the Politico Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats adjourned the House and shut down the lights and microphones. But John Boehner and other Republicans are refusing to leave. It started out with just a handful but they are trying to round up other Republicans to return.

The Democrats turned off the lights and the microphones because they don’t want this covered by the press. They don’t want it covered by the press because they don’t want you to know about it. This is good stuff and it’s a crying shame that it’s not being covered by the media. Doesn’t anyone have a video camera? They’re calling it a “new Boston Tea Party”.

The Politico’s last update was at 4:30, they are still there and apparently they aren’t going anywhere soon. They’ve even brought in boy scouts! I wish I was there.

Update: C-Span issued a statement saying it isn’t their fault they aren’t covering the news on the House floor. The Speaker of the House (Nancy Pelosi) controls the cameras. So don’t believe anyone who sayd that Nancy Pelosi isn’t keeping the public from knowing what’s going on in Washington.

Update: At 5:00 PM they ended their protest, singing “God Bless America”.

That’s a little bit disappointing. It’s now up to President Bush to call them back.
