The Good News

Isn’t it ironic that ABC, CBS and NBC are all having bad years. You’d think viewership would be up, with the bad economy aren’t more people staying home. Well, it serves them right.

NPR, funded by you and I, is facing a similar fate. As if a Fairness Doctrine could help left wing talk radio.

Newspapers aren’t doing any better than broadcast TV or leftie talk.

There’s a bit of poetic justice going on and it couldn’t be happening to anyone more deserving. That is, except politicians, but they’ll get theirs eventually. Merry Fitzmas!

Monday Musings

Why would the federal government even consider bailing out a corporation that has made horrible business decisions for years? GM should go bankrupt and re-organize under new management, at least that’s what Michael Levine writing for the Wall Street Journal thinks. I agree.

At least one United States Senator has some common sense. Sen. Jim Inhofe proposes a freeze on the “bailout” funds given to Secretary Paulson. That’s a fine idea. No more bailouts!

If you like conservative talk radio, you may want to consider satellite. It looks like the left is gunning for making right wing talk show a thing of the past on terrestrial radio.

Do you remember Barack Obama denouncing lobbyists? Funny, isn’t it that he’s hiring a whole host of lobbyists to work on his transition team?

What does HIllary Clinton have on Barack Obama that makes him willing to offer her the job of Secretary of State?

Now I remember what I didn’t like about Mike Huckabee. What’s up with him?

You probably won’t read about it in your local newspaper or hear it from the MSM, but the issue of Barack Obama’s birth certificate has not been resolved. Which just makes one wonder, why won’t he just produce the darn thing?

The Fairness Doctrine

I haven’t taken the time to delve into the Fairness Doctrine, but Maggie at Maggie’s Notebook has. You can read her latest post here. Thankfully, I have satellite radio and I don’t believe they can go after that medium, but who knows.

Top ten reasons to vote Democrats into Congress

Posted by Lonely Conservative On October - 31 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

Why vote for Dan Maffei, or any Democrat for Congress for that matter? Let me count the reasons!

1-You despise the First Amendment to the Constitution and want free speech wiped out with the Fairness Doctrine. You also despise the Second Amendment. Only criminals should have guns.

2-You believe the Constitution is a living, breathing document and you hope someone finally kills it once and for all.

3-You don’t believe employees have the right to a secret ballot when deciding on unionizing. You prefer that thugs show up at employees’ doors and make them sign a card. Read the rest of this entry »

New poll on the Fairness Doctrine

Posted by Lonely Conservative On August - 14 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

According to a new Rasmussen poll 47% of our fellow Americans believe television and radio should offer equal time to conservative and liberal commentary.  If that’s not bad enough 31% believe it should also apply to the web! Who are these people?

According to Rasmussen-

With the Congress expected to stay firmly under Democratic control, the responses of those who plan to vote for the party’s presidential candidate Barack Obama versus his Republican opponent John McCain suggest what direction the Fairness Doctrine debate is likely to take in the coming year. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of likely Obama voters believe the government should make all radio and TV stations offer equal amounts of conservative and liberal commentary, as opposed to 40% of potential McCain voters who feel that way. But 63% of McCain voters and 53% of Obama voters reject similar regulation of web sites and bloggers.

So almost half of Obama’s voters believe government control of web content is a good idea. Here’s a novel idea, if you don’t like what you hear on the radio, turn the station! If you don’t like what you read online click out! No government intervention required.

Warning-Fairness Doctrine could apply to the web!

Posted by Lonely Conservative On August - 12 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

The concern about the “Fairness Doctrine” has centered on the effect it will have on talk radio. No one thought it would effect web sites or blogs.  Well, think again. According to FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell, the Fairness Doctrine (or whatever they decide to re-name it)  and “the net neutrality effort could win the support of ‘a few isolated conservatives’ who may not fully realize the long-term effects of government regulation.” Which “few isolated conservatives” could he be talking about? The “Cowardly Five” Republican Senators in the Gang of Ten? Why not, they cave on everything else, so why not the Fairness Doctrine.

If they have their way The Lonely Conservative will be posting articles from the Illustrious Liberal.
