2008 - What a long strange year it’s been!

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 29 - 2008 6 COMMENTS

Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, liberals and moderates can all agree that 2008 was an interesting year, to say the least. Who would have thought the New York Football Giants would have bested the New England Patriots in the Superbowl? If you thought that would be the strangest thing to happen this year you don’t follow politics too closely.

2008 kicked off in the midst of the Presidential primary season. Democrats bickered over who cared more about the impoverished and who wanted our troops out of Iraq sooner. Republicans went back and forth, each claiming to be the most conservative, while Republican voters kept wondering how they could channel Ronald Reagan. Read the rest of this entry »

Financial Prophet: It’s only going to get worse!

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 24 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

If you’re trying to quit drinking or smoking or any other bad habit, or are prone to depression this video isn’t for you. Peter Schiff predicted this economic crisis and predicts it’s only going to get worse - much worse. Borrow and spend, borrow and spend, borrow and spend. That’s how we got into this mess. Now we’re borrowing and spending more.  According to Schiff we can expect high inflation and the Dow to drop a couple thousand more points. Happy Thanksgiving!

Rahm, Freddie and Fannie

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 7 - 2008 6 COMMENTS

Barack Obama’s choice for Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, is not only a partisan hack, but he also was on the Board of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from 2000 and 2002. He was handsomely compensated. In case you haven’t heard, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are at the heart of the current economic crisis.

Contrary to popular belief, the economic crisis we face has nothing to do with “the failed policies of George W. Bush”. It has everything to do with the CRA and the two GSE’s whose oversight President Bush attempted to reform. Read the rest of this entry »

No Place to Go But Up!

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 6 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

I know a lot of conservatives woke up this morning feeling defeated. The lefties feel vindicated and are having a blast kicking us while we’re down. But don’t be too discouraged.

The behavior of the left the past eight years has been nothing short of disgraceful. They have trashed a President who is a decent human being for their own political gain. Today their puppets are on TV talking about how divisive politics will now come to an end. Why is that? Since they don’t need that weapon anymore?

Here is their problem. They now have complete control. How long can they continue to blame President Bush for their own failures? Conservative values didn’t cause the economic crisis to happen. They know it but they aren’t going to tell you that. All they care about is power.

And now that they will have all the power, we can expect them to borrow even more money for another stimulus package. Not that it worked before, but hey, what’s another trillion between friends? Barack Obama is already warning us that perhaps he won’t be able to fulfill all of his promises any time soon. Sooner or later the left’s policies will catch up to them.

In the mean time, conservatism is alive and well. Conservatism wasn’t defeated at all. John McCain is a decent, honorable and trustworthy man. But based on his record he wasn’t a true conservative and we know it. The Republican Party lurched too far to the left. At times there was no distinguishing the Republicans from the Democrats. Republicans played nice with the Democrats and then took the blame whenever something went wrong.

Now the Democrats will have no one to blame but themselves. As Rep. Thaddeus McCotter put it we’re at Republican Rock Bottom and it’s now time to seize freedom. We have no place to go but up.

We may have a few tough years ahead of us, but we haven’t lost our will and we haven’t lost our voices.

Are things really that bad?

Posted by Lonely Conservative On October - 30 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

Listening to politicians and pundits would lead one to believe that life here in the United States is absolutely rotten and getting worse by the day. Barack Obama’s been saying that for months, and he believes the only way to cure all of our problems is to elect him, The One. He’ll wave his magic redistribution wand and the whole world will be a better place.

But seriously, just how bad is it, really? Most people I know are doing okay. Gas prices are down which is a good thing. People are a little nervous about the stock market, but the market fluctuates. It always has and it always will. Will people have to spend a little less on holiday gifts this year? Maybe. But so what? Read the rest of this entry »

A Needle in a Haystack - A Reporter Tells the Truth

Posted by Lonely Conservative On October - 22 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

I was shocked when I read “Will the Last Honest Reporter Please Turn on the Lights?” by Orson Scott Card. He is a Democrat and a reporter and he’s calling out the media for not presenting the facts regarding the economic crisis.

Card tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. He chastises the press for failing to do it’s job. He even demands that the guilty reporters be fired!

Isn’t there a story here? Doesn’t journalism require that you who produce our daily paper tell the truth about who brought us to a position where the only way to keep confidence in our economy was a $700 billion bailout? Aren’t you supposed to follow the money and see which politicians were benefiting personally from the deregulation of mortgage lending?

I have no doubt that if these facts had pointed to the Republican Party or to John McCain as the guilty parties, you would be treating it as a vast scandal. “Housing-gate,” no doubt. Or “Fannie-gate.”

In a perfect world, a few honest reporters might actually hear the call for honesty and report the facts. Sadly, we live in an imperfect world with a dishonest media. Rather than giving this guy a medal for his honesty they’ll probably set out to destroy him. Read the full article.

The strategy of manufactured crisis finally paying off

Posted by Lonely Conservative On October - 11 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

The left in this country have been carrying out their strategy of manufactured crisis for decades. I believe it’s finally paying off for them. There’s are great piece out there from the AC/DC blog that sums things up nicely. I’ve never been a consipiracy theorist, but when the shoe fits. Read the rest of this entry »

More playground politics from Obama

Posted by Lonely Conservative On September - 24 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

John McCain announced earlier that he was suspending his campaign activities to return to Washington to get to work on the current economic situation. As I write this, Barack Obama is on the tube doing a press conference.

Earlier, his campaign released a statement saying they contacted McCain first. Obama reiterated that sentiment during his press conference. This guy is worse than kids, at least when they act that way we can send them to their rooms.

Let’s send Obama to his room in November. Let him know we don’t want a President who practices playground politics.

Proof of the Democrats’ deception on the economy

Posted by Lonely Conservative On September - 16 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

Democrats charge that the policies of George Bush in particular and Republicans in general are the direct cause of our current economic problems. They are flat out lying through their teeth! Thanks to the Mark Levin Show, I found out about this NY Times article dated September 11, 2003.

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.

The article goes on the detail how Republicans wanted to pass a reform bill after outside investigators found that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were cooking the books and misleading investors. Who would have been against such a bill? Home Builders and Democrats, that’s who. The same ones who pretend to be the champions of the poor and middle class.

”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.

”I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,” Mr. Watt said.

The Democrats wanted these insitutions to lend money to uncreditworthy borrowers. In this instance the Democrats may want to be careful. Personally, I’d prefer to be tied to President Bush, who tried to prevent the mess from taking place, than the Democrats who caused it.

Update: Speaking of those Democrats, Nancy Pelosi is ordering a “broad, swift investigtion of Wall Street.” Further, “House Democrats plan to aggressively look at the administration’s role in the meltdown.” Talk about audacity. Curiously, Rep. Barney Frank “plans a forward-looking hearing with economists.”  Talk about audacity!

Forgive Us Our Debts

Posted by lonelyconservative On July - 18 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

The United States is in a fiscal crisis. Our national debt and unfunded mandates (Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid) are swiftly becoming unsustainable. Every year we owe more and more money to foreigners.

Andrew Yarrow is sounding the alarm about our growing deficits and debt in “Forgive Us Our Debts: The Intergenerational Dangers of Fiscal Irresponsibility”. The book takes us through the process of how we got to this point and explores options for getting us back on track fiscally. Unfortunately, that responsibility falls on the shoulders of our elected officials who care more about the next election than doing the right thing for our country. Whether you agree with Dr. Yarrow’s entire analysis or not, he is right in pointing out that something must be done soon.

“Forgive Us Our Debts” solidifies the notion that the United States has become a socialist country, and the way things look it’s only going to get worse. Andrew Wilkow once said that Americans want our needs to be provided by the government so we can take care of our wants. It began with FDR and the entitlements keep expanding while we go into debt to pay for it.

We don’t want to fund our own health care, we want the government to do it. We don’t want to fund our retirement, we want to retire early and have the government pay for it. We want big new houses and when we can’t pay our mortgages we want the government to bail us out. We want cell phones, ipods, computers, new cars and new clothes. When we can’t pay the bills we file bankruptcy.

It is time for Americans to stop looking to the government to solve their problems. It is time for the government to reign in spending. As Yarrow concluded “If we do not, Ronald Reagan’s ‘morning in America’ may undergo a time-zone shift of historical proportions: if it’s night time in America, isn’t it morning in China?”

Update: This was written before the current financial/economic crisis. Has anyone noticed that none of the politicians are talking about these unfunded mandates while debating whether or not to bail out auto companies? We can’t pay for the old programs, how are we going to pay for the new ones?
