Obama sermon on the big screen!

Posted by Lonely Conservative On August - 28 - 2008 4 COMMENTS

The Palace Theater in Syracuse NY will be simulcasting the Democratic National Convention tonight beginning at 8:00 PM. But Obama doesn’t want you to think he’s a celebrity.

I thought, if the Palace is doing it, who else is? So I did a 250 mile radius search for events on Obama’s website. There’s a movie theater in Ithaca, the Main Street Armory in Rochester, The Montrose (PA) Theater, The Masie Center in Saratago Springs and the Riviera Theater in Tonawanda. I didn’t even make it an eighth of the way down the page. There is also a “Yes We Can!” party somewhere in Pennsylvania.

Obama says he doesn’t want to be portrayed as a celebrity, then he goes and does all he can to portray himself as a super star. We just aren’t supposed to point out the obvious. That’s all he’s got. He doesn’t have the experience or judgment, so he portrays himself as a rock star, hoping that will be enough for our celebrity obsessed culture.

Where are the manly men?

I can tell you where they’re not, and that’s the Democratic National Convention. After a few minutes of watching convention coverage I got bored and turned it off. I put on Man vs. Wild.

Bear was stranded in a fetid swamp in Louisiana . In the time it took Joe Biden to give his speech Bear built a raft, crossed a river, caught a catfish bare-handed, peed on his wounds and found his way out of the swamp. All of that without the help of government. (Unless you count George Bush causing Hurricane Katrina-Bear was able to follow Katrina’s wreckage to safety.)

It’s so much better to watch a manly man doing manly things than it is to watch and listen to a bunch of metrosexuals give speeches about how hard their daddies worked. Have you ever noticed, Democrats rarely mention any hard work they themselves have done? Oh yeah-most of them have never held a real job.

Still Yawning

It’s just more of the same coming out of the Democratic National Convention. Last night between innings and during pitching changes I clicked the remote to check in on what Hillary had to say. One click brought Hillary telling workers the Democrats are there for them. They just don’t seem to understand that people who work hard really don’t need them. Never have, never will.

There was more drivel about John McCain equals George Bush, how drilling for our own oil is stupid and what a bunch of losers Americans are without the Democratic party. There was no mention that most of the country’s worst city’s are run by Democrats and have been for decades. That would spoil their buzz.

This morning’s paper had a two page story on Clinton’s speech and a side story about Mitt Romney being an attack dog. Pit bull was the specific breed.  I’d tag Romney as a Doberman. Elegant, yet powerful. Democrats are more like Bassett Hounds, hard to train and may not bark at strangers.

Obama’s Superbowl half time show

Posted by Lonely Conservative On August - 27 - 2008 5 COMMENTS

Barack Obama was very offended when John McCain labeled him a celebrity. Who can blame him, really? That’s why it’s so puzzling that he’ll be delivering his speech Thursday night from a Greek portico at the 50 yard line of Invesco Field.

He will stride out to a raised platform to a podium that can be raised from beneath the floor.

The show should provide a striking image for the millions of Americans watching on television as Obama delivers a speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

Confetti and fireworks will top off the evening. The only thing missing is water for Obama to walk on. I just can’t help but wonder, will this be an acceptance speech, a sermon from the new Messiah or a Superbowl half time show?

Yawn

Is it just me, or is the Democratic National Convention really boring? Seriously, if you’ve heard one speech from a closet socialist you’ve pretty much heard them all. The most exciting thing that happened Monday was Barack Obama, via satellite, declare he was in St. Louis while the screen crawler announced he was in Kansas City. Oh well, geography never was his strong suit.

The protesters harrassing a Fox News reporter was a nice little diversion, but then it was back to the same ol, same ol. While the PUMA’s are outside screaming, the Democrats are inside saying “we’re unified”. Then it’s just more talk about hope and change.

You’d think with all the money they’ve spent they would have put on a better show. You know, one that someone besides a true believer would enjoy. Tonight I’m going back to watching baseball. It’s more exciting and there’s no socialism involved. You either win or you lose.

How the Democrats get it wrong

Posted by Lonely Conservative On August - 26 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

The Democrats are in the limelight this week at their carefully scripted media event. They’ve been on their best behavior, delivering one meticulous speech after another, designed to leave voters with warm fuzzy feelings they hope will translate into votes.

A world with poverty is bad and must be changed. Expensive health care should be free for all. We should volunteer to help the least among us. Who could argue with those sentiments?

What they don’t seem to understand is that the world is made up of unique individuals. Each of us has our own peculiar mix of circumstance, perception, abilitiy and diligence. No politician or party can change that.

The Democrats want to guarantee not only a level playing field, but an equal outcome. That is impossible. Human beings make mistakes. Can they promise we will learn from our mistakes? Of course not. Can they legislate ambition and talent? Do they have the ability to increase and individual’s IQ?  That’s just silly.

Another question to ask is just who are the least among us? Poor people? Would a poor person with dignity and pride consider him or herself “the least among us”? Does a disability make one the “least among us”? That’s insulting.

Their call for volunteerism is also cause for alarm. Barack Obama’s plan will require students to volunteer. If it’s required it isn’t volunteerism, it’s servitude. When people volunteer they usually do so for selfish reasons; helping others makes us feel good, or we see a need in our community and step up to make our community better. That can’t be legislated, it’s human nature. What this policy could do is make people resentful of those they are supposed to be helping.

The policies proposed by Barack Obama have been tried and have failed. Just ask the people of Cuba who put their lives at risk for a chance to make it on their own.

NBC coverage of Democratic National Convention

I watched NBC’s (National Barack Channel) coverage of the Democratic National Convention. I had Tums, ginger ale and saltine crackers to control my nausea. I watched for you, my dear readers, so you don’t have to. I think I had more fun at my appendectomy, but that’s another story. Grab your antibiotics and patchouli! It’s ReCreate 68!

Longing for a time when it was cool to spit on US soldiers, this group of bitter Americans, while clinging to their peace posters and pot pipes, is protesting of all people Barack Obama! That’s right, he isn’t anti-war enough for them.

Nancy Pelosi has let them down. She failed to impeach President Bush (making Dick Cheney President) and force complete US surrender in Iraq. Now that we’re winning the war and there’s an end in sight, thanks to President Bush and the troop surge, they’re running out of time. How will they be able to take credit for our troops coming after we’ve won the war and handed control over to the Iraqi army? Oh dear.

Why they’re so mad at Obama is a mystery. Don’t they know he’s their Messiah? He only recently started talking tough after he read a memo that American voters actually like that.

ReCreate 68 will have none of that. They want attention and they want it now. They want to re-live the good old days of riots, STDs and hallucinations. What could be better than that?

Dumb, dumb and dumber at the DNC!

What’s a party without John Kerry (dumb), Al Gore (dumb) and Jimmy Carter (dumber)? Have no fear Democrats, the three of them will be speaking at the Democratic National Convention! What fun!

Organizers announced that Al Gore will speak the night Obama accepts his nomination. That works out great for Obama, the crowd will be so happy to see Gore depart the stage they won’t be able to contain their elation.

Monday evening’s prime time speaker will be Michelle Obama. They may want to re-think that, she’s kind of a downer. But what do I know, Democrats probably like that sort of thing. Some folks from the Chicago political machine will open for her, so I guess anyone would be refreshing after that.

To demonstrate the Democrats’ strength on the economy they’re trotting out a union boss Tuesday night. Now that’s just silly.

We’ll see all of the old Democrat favorites, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Jesse Jackson and Bill Richardson. Hmm, the only thing that seems to be missing is “change”.
