A Lesson for Conservatives

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 2 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

It’s time for conservatives (and Republicans, too) to take stock of the Bush Presidency so we can learn from history. Otherwise, the conservative movement is in a lot of trouble.

President Bush did many things right. He’s kept us safe since 9/11 and adhered to his principles when it comes to the war on terror. He lowered taxes and appointed Justices Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court. But we also must look at what President Bush did wrong or history is bound to repeat itself.

Philip Klein, writing for the American Spectator, has put together a thoughtful critique of President Bush’s record, Learning from the Bush Legacy. This should be read not just by pundits and politicians, but also by conservative voters who participate in the primary process. We can’t keep nominating liberal Republicans, or Republicans who have difficulty communicating a conservative message. Read the rest of this entry »

MSM Weight Loss Plan for Conservatives

My gag reflex has been in overdrive due to the fawning by the media over Barack Obama. I throw up in my mouth a little bit every day. Today’s no different. Brent Bozell at NewsBusters has more documentation of the blatant media bias. As far as they’re concerned, Mr. Obama is a genius who can do no wrong. Mr. Bozell also goes back in time to recall the treatment of past Republican and Democratic presidents.

You’ll never guess which side received the favorable treatment! You guessed it, the Democrats! This despite the facts. Read the rest of this entry »

Buck Up Little Campers!

Here’s Zo, with words of love for our country, congratulations for Obama and a little arm chair quarterbacking for conservatives. Too bad we didn’t listen to him during the primaries. He’s brilliant. Does he want to go into politics?

There’s so much speculation about the Obama presidency. Will he immediately begin to implement left wing policies? Will he be a moderate so he doesn’t ruin his chance of reelection in 2012? Who knows.

His choice of super partisan thug Rahm Emanuel could mean he’ll go with the former, but there’s really no way to tell.

Many conservatives are optimistic and see Opportunity in an Obama Presidency. They believe that Obama, Pelosi and Reid will veer so far to the left and screw things up so badly that conservative Republicans will make a huge come back in 2010 and 2012. That’s encouraging.

There are those who are not at all optimistic. They believe this could be the death of conservatism in America, that the left is so ruthless they will stop at nothing to cement their power. They believe that Saul Alinsky will take the White House. That’s scary.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to know what will happen. Will Obama surprise us and rule as a moderate, understanding that the American people really don’t want to take our country farther to the left? We can only hope.

Did Americans Make a Sharp Left Turn?

Some pundits have posited that America has gone from a center-right country to a center-left country. That would seem to make sense, given last night’s election results. But is it true?

There’s evidence it’s not true at all. American Issues Project conducted a survey and found that most voters were upset with Republicans for not living up to their conservative ideals. Another survey revealed that self described conservatives in America still outnumber liberals.

Newsbusters reminded us today that when Bill Clinton was elected the media declared that Reagan conservatism was dead. They do that again today, but it doesn’t make it so.

Even California voters had the good sense to say no to new, expensive, green initiatives, which the media will probably ignore.

Will the most liberal President-elect and the most liberal Congress in history take notice?

No Place to Go But Up!

I know a lot of conservatives woke up this morning feeling defeated. The lefties feel vindicated and are having a blast kicking us while we’re down. But don’t be too discouraged.

The behavior of the left the past eight years has been nothing short of disgraceful. They have trashed a President who is a decent human being for their own political gain. Today their puppets are on TV talking about how divisive politics will now come to an end. Why is that? Since they don’t need that weapon anymore?

Here is their problem. They now have complete control. How long can they continue to blame President Bush for their own failures? Conservative values didn’t cause the economic crisis to happen. They know it but they aren’t going to tell you that. All they care about is power.

And now that they will have all the power, we can expect them to borrow even more money for another stimulus package. Not that it worked before, but hey, what’s another trillion between friends? Barack Obama is already warning us that perhaps he won’t be able to fulfill all of his promises any time soon. Sooner or later the left’s policies will catch up to them.

In the mean time, conservatism is alive and well. Conservatism wasn’t defeated at all. John McCain is a decent, honorable and trustworthy man. But based on his record he wasn’t a true conservative and we know it. The Republican Party lurched too far to the left. At times there was no distinguishing the Republicans from the Democrats. Republicans played nice with the Democrats and then took the blame whenever something went wrong.

Now the Democrats will have no one to blame but themselves. As Rep. Thaddeus McCotter put it we’re at Republican Rock Bottom and it’s now time to seize freedom. We have no place to go but up.

We may have a few tough years ahead of us, but we haven’t lost our will and we haven’t lost our voices.

Worth a Read

If you’re an undecided voter and you have a few minutes, you should read this column by Neal Boortz. It’s a bit long, but how does one make the case against Obama in a few paragraphs? There’s just so much to consider. Do you want your job to vanish? Vote Obama! Do you think employees are NOT entitled to the secret ballot when voting for unionization? Vote Obama.

If you’re a Republican or conservative who believes we should let Obma win so a “true conservative” will emerge in 2012 to save the day then I suggest you read The Consequences of Defeat by Michael Medved. He makes the case that the price of an Obama presidency is far to high to take that chance. Heck, even if you’re undecided you should read it. If you’re independent that probably means you aren’t a socialist.
