2008 - What a long strange year it’s been!

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 29 - 2008 6 COMMENTS

Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, liberals and moderates can all agree that 2008 was an interesting year, to say the least. Who would have thought the New York Football Giants would have bested the New England Patriots in the Superbowl? If you thought that would be the strangest thing to happen this year you don’t follow politics too closely.

2008 kicked off in the midst of the Presidential primary season. Democrats bickered over who cared more about the impoverished and who wanted our troops out of Iraq sooner. Republicans went back and forth, each claiming to be the most conservative, while Republican voters kept wondering how they could channel Ronald Reagan. Read the rest of this entry »

Do you believe the main stream media did a good job covering the Presidential election?

Still Pickin’ on Palin

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 28 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

What is it with libs? Can’t they be good winners? They’ve won the Presidency, House and Senate. You’d think they’d be happy and call it a day. They’re the ones who accuse conservatives of being mean spirited, partisan and intollerant and turn around and vilify anyone who disagrees with them.

They’re almost as deranged over Sarah Palin as they are over President Bush. Newsweek Magazine is supposed to be a news source, yet they continue to trash Sarah Palin.  They derided Sarah Palin and even took a swipe at her daughter, Bristol in their year end edition. Read analysis at Newsbusters.

Palin Derangement Syndrome has spread across the ocean to Great Britain where a fashion writer named her the worst dressed of 2008. Of course the same writer lauded Michelle Obama as a goddess married to a sex god. This is simply ridiculous. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but come on. Sarah Palin always looked fabulous out there on the campaign trail.

But to those suffering from Palin Derangement Syndrome, anything and everything about Sarah Palin is fair game. Her family, her clothes, her accent. They’re so blinded by hatred, to them Governor Palin isn’t even human. She could be Mother Teresa and they would still find reason to lampoon her regularly.

I have a feeling that Sarah Palin will have the last laugh, though. Her 2009 calendar is a best seller at Amazon.com. Perhaps Palin Derangement Syndrome isn’t as contagious as Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Surprise! Barack Obama is Time Mag’s 2008 Man of the Year

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 17 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

We can pretty much count on Barack Obama being Time’s man of the year for the next four years.

Have you read Why History Can’t Wait? If not, I wouldn’t recommend reading it near meal time if you have a strong gag reflex. Some of the highlights (emphasis mine):

It is here that we find Barack Obama one soul-freezingly cold December day, mentally unpacking the crate of crushing problems — some old, some new, all ugly — that he is about to inherit as the 44th President of the United States. Most of his hours inside the presidential-transition office are spent in this bland and bare-bones room. You would think the President-elect — a guy who draws 100,000 people to a speech in St. Louis, Mo., who raises three-quarters of a billion dollars, who is facing the toughest first year since Franklin Roosevelt’s — might merit a leather chair. Maybe a credenza? A hutch?

Didn’t Ronald Reagan have a bit to deal with when he took office? Oh yeah, I forgot, he was a Republican. Read the rest of this entry »

Denied

It looks like the Supreme Court has denied Leo Donofrio’s application to stay the election in the Obama citizenship lawsuit. This doesn’t really come as a surprise, and doesn’t bode well for the other lawsuits pending.

The Supreme Court has turned down an emergency appeal from a New Jersey man who says President-elect Barack Obama is ineligible to be president because he was a British subject at birth.

The court did not comment on its order Monday rejecting the call by Leo Donofrio of East Brunswick, N.J., to intervene in the presidential election. Full Story.

The Irony of Bailouts and Politics

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 4 - 2008 6 COMMENTS

At least one sector of the US economy was booming this year. While the economic downturn has hit everything from Wall Street to Motor City, one big business has done quite well - politics.

John McCain and the Republicans spent about $550 million in the general election. Not bad when times are tough.

Barack Obama and the Democrats were the big winners, raising an estimated $847 million dollars. In fact, the Obama campaign raised so much money they couldn’t spend it all in time, so his staffers received bonuses of a whole month’s salary.

It wasn’t just the Presidential campaign that had money pouring in. Congressional Democrats received hundreds of millions of dollars from the UAW and US auto companies.

The unions and auto companies weren’t alone in their big contributions to Democrats. Wall Street was right there with them. It seems that everyone receiving or begging for taxpayer dollars today was mighty generous to the Dems over the past few months.

Now our elected officials are about to fork over billions more to people who earn far more money than the average taxpayer. If that’s not bad enough, those of us who would never send a dime to a Democrat will be sending billions to the companies that helped get those Democrats elected.

Talk about irony.

Supreme Court to Decide Whether to Hear Citizenship Case

Posted by Lonely Conservative On December - 4 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Tomorrow the Supreme Court will conference on whether to hear the Obama citizenship lawsuit. It’s anybody’s guess what they will decide. I wouldn’t even try to guess, but the odds are against it.

Many petitioners seeking stays of pending events have their cases distributed to the full court, he said. Of those, Volokh found that 782 were denied in the last eight years while just 60 were heard — and not all of those ultimately were successful. Read full article.

There’s another interesting turn of events. A second lawsuit was sent to the Supreme Court, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg rejected it, so it was re-submitted to Justice Scalia. It was filed as an emergency stay and the petitioner was hoping it would be joined with the first lawsuit sent to the Supreme Court. Inexplicably, a law clerk intercepted the paperwork and referred it for anthrax testing. Read full story at Radio Patriot.

I still don’t understand why Barack Obama doesn’t simply produce a his birth certificate and end all of this.

Update: According to the SCOTUS website, once a case is conferenced the disposition will be published the following Monday at 10:00 AM. So, my understanding is that we won’t know anything until Monday.

Update 12/8/08: The case brought by Leo Donofrio has been denied by the Supreme Court.

Barack Obama - ‘Do As I Say, Not As I Do’

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 25 - 2008 10 COMMENTS

Barack Obama managed to ruin my lunch for the second day in a row. I wish he’d time his little ‘Office of the President Elect’ press conferences later in the day, midnight would be good. All of our meals should be fairly well digested by then.

He’s starting to sound like the adults from Charlie Brown. Instead of “Whaant, whaant, whaant” it’s “Er, um, er.” The theme today was common sense government. I wish he would explain the common sense of borrowing and spending our way out of a problem caused by too much borrowing and spending. Read the rest of this entry »

The Love Fest Continues

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 24 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

I caught a bit of ABC’s Obamalove at lunch time today and my stomach turned so I shut it off. Tonight NewsBusters is reporting that the Obamalove was even worse at CBS over the weekend.

On the Saturday Early Show on CBS, President-elect Barack Obama’s Cabinet picks were presented positively as correspondent Kimberly Dozier referred to a “superstar Cabinet,” and its members as “bold” and “inspired,” while co-anchor Erica Hill called the Cabinet “star-studded,” During the 8:00 a.m. hour, as she filed a story regarding Obama’s choices of Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State and Timothy Geithner, also from the Clinton administration, for Treasury Secretary, Dozier introduced her report: “Well, Obama’s Cabinet picks are coming one by one, and they’re calling it, in some cases, a ‘superstar Cabinet.’” After informing viewers that Obama may ask Defense Secretary Robert Gates to stay on, Dozier repeated the “superstar” label as she passed on praise from former Reagan Chief of Staff Ken Duberstein. Dozier: “Ronald Reagan’s former chief of staff says Obama’s taking a page from his boss’s book, choosing a superstar team for their skills, not their political persuasion.” Read full story and trascript at NewsBusters.

It’s going to be a long four years.

What’s going on with those birth certificate lawsuits?

Update: ABC News is at it again. Sickening.

The Big Lie

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 24 - 2008 4 COMMENTS

“The failed economic policies of the last eight years.” We’ve head that line quite a bit lately. Does anyone remember the recession George W. Bush inherited? It was after the ‘dot com bubble’ burst. George W. Bush’s economic policies weren’t so bad then, were they? Then we had 9/11 and another downturn in 2003. Today those times are just barely blips on the radar of economic downturns.

I believe that if the current economic crisis happened a year ago the economy would be back on the upswing. The markets would know what to expect, at least for the next year, and things would stabilize quickly. Sure, we’d still have the underlying problem of the housing market and the mortgate mess, but I believe it would be a lot less severe if there was a sense of stability right now.

Unfortunately, that’s not the case. George W. Bush is on his way out and Barack H. Obama is on his way in. The word of the day is uncertainty. Markets don’t like uncertainty and like it or not, investment fuels our economy.

All this talk about Barack Obama being the next FDR is really making me nervous. Contrary to popular belief, FDR didn’t get us out of the depression, he prolonged it by as many as seven years. So when people tell me Mr. Obama will be the next FDR, it makes me believe we won’t be out of this economic crisis until my seven year old starts high school. Read the rest of this entry »

Sorry Kate, we still have a Constitution

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 23 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

The media did everything possible to see to it that Barack Obama won the election. Ah, but that’s not good enough. At least not for Kate Snow. She’d like to see The One take over now, today. Too bad the Constitution gets in the way.

H/T NewsBusters who has a transcrip of the exchange between Ms. Snow and Paul Krugman (who was the voice of reason if you can believe that!)

Supreme Court to Conference on Barack Obama’s Citizenship

Justice Clarence Thomas has placed a discussion of Barack Obama’s citizenship on the December 5th docket for conference, meaning a discussion of the merit of this particular case.

A commenter at America’s Right, who has been the leading source of excellent information on the various lawsuits, is requesting that we write directly to the Supreme Court: Read the rest of this entry »

ABC’s Boston Legal Says McCain Voters/Bloggers are Idiots

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 18 - 2008 8 COMMENTS

According to NewsBusters ABC’s Boston Legal called McCain/Palin voters idiots. (I guess they didn’t see the video “How Obama was Elected.”) Conservative bloggers are “entry level life forms”. Coming from them I’ll take that as a compliment.  Read full story.

How Obama Got Elected

Praising Capitalism

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 14 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

I’m so happy I wasn’t the only one who noticed the way the Dow shot up after George Bush’s speech praising capitalism. Larry Kudlow noticed, too.

Here’s one of several great passages from Bush: “At its most basic level, capitalism offers people the freedom to choose where they work and what they do … the dignity that comes with profiting from their talent and hard work. … The free-market system also provides the incentives that lead to prosperity - the incentive to work, to innovate, to save and invest wisely, and to create jobs for others.”

In other words, free-market capitalism is the best path to prosperity.

Where has this George Bush been hiding? Maybe the Republicans should have had him out giving speeches like this one before the election. Heck, it couldn’t have hurt. It may even have helped to stabilize the markets. Read the rest of this entry »
