House Republicans have been busy this week. Some of it’s good, some is bad. I don’t have time to comment on everything so here are the links.
A House panel is starting an investigation into adjustments to climate data.
Impeachment proceedings against the head of the IRS have begun.
Republican leaders surrendered to Obama on the budget.
Paul Ryan blasted Boehner over the secretive process.
Speaking of Paul Ryan, he promised that if he’s elected Speaker there will be no immigration reform while Obama is president.
Big business wins again with a bipartisan vote to reauthorize the Export Import Bank.
Did I miss anything?
The news report lied when it said most Republicans voted for re-authorization. The Republican caucus voted no by a margin of 177 to 62. Not one Democrat voted to excise this pustule.
The New York Republicans voting in favor include Peter King (Loudmouth-Long Island), Christopher Gibson (Disappointment - Hudson Valley), Elise Stefanik (Big Disappointment - North Country), Richard Hanna (Lame-as-ever - Mohawk Valley), Tom Reed (Hack’s hack - Southern Tier), John Katko (Another Careerist - Syracuse region), Chris Collins (Sigh - Western New York). We must have the worst Republican delegation in Congress. The only ‘no’ votes came from that otherwise exceedingly unappealing cretin from Staten Island and from a rather interesting fellow from the far end of Long Island.
And, among the votes to re-authorize was that of Renee Ellmers, (Sellout-North Carolina). She’s facing a primary challenge and would be justly sent home (except, of course, she’ll get a lobbying gig in DC).
I had to go away for work but was checking my email and got a few from the NY republicans bragging about their vote. Kind of ruined my appetite.
I’m referring to the vote to revive the Export-Import Bank, which was done because, you know, trade finance is another job Americans just won’t do.
The ExIm Bank appears to have collared the bulk of the delegation (if not a bloc vote) from Republicans from a selection of states: New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Washington state). There’s another clutch from Ohio.
