Senate Dems Kick Off Memorial Day Weekend By Blocking VA Accountability Bill

A bipartisan bill passed in the House that would make the VA more accountable to the veterans it serves. You would think such a non-controversial bill would have easily passed in the Senate, but no, you would be wrong. The Democrats blocked the bill, just before Memorial Day weekend.

Senate Democrats decided mark this Memorial Day by blocking this bill.

Speaker John Boehner wasn’t happy:

As we head into the Memorial Day weekend, I am disappointed, and-frankly-shocked that Senate Democratic leaders chose to block legislation that would hold VA managers accountable,” Boehner said in a statement. “As we head home to honor the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom, it’s fair to ask why Senate Democrats won’t stand up for more accountability?”

Update: Just to clarify, the Democrats got Senator Bernie Sanders, who is officially an independent socialist who caucuses with Democrats, to block the bill. The excuse was that they didn’t have time to read it. The bill is only about 3 pages long.
