Despite ‘Let’s Move’ Campaign Obesity Rate Rose In 2013

It looks like Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign isn’t having its intended effect. According to Gallup, the obesity rate rose in 2013. It’s now 27.2%, up from 26.2% last year, and from 25.5% in 2008.

The one-percentage-point uptick in the obesity rate so far in 2013 is statistically significant and is the largest year-over-year increase since 2009. The higher rate thus far in 2013 reverses the lower levels recorded in 2011 and 2012, and is much higher than the 25.5% who were obese in 2008.

Blacks, those who are middle-aged, and lower-income adults continue to be the groups with the highest obesity rates.

Thanks to the Obama economy there are more and more lower-income adults. Maybe if they wold stop destroying the economy the obesity problem would take care of itself.
