Johanna Pagan, a 38 year old veteran, was found dead in a Syracuse, NY apartment of multiple stab wounds to her chest and back. Witnesses saw 27 year old Talarico Young running from the scene right after hearing Pagan scream. Young has been arrested, but this is not his first arrest. It’s not his second arrest. It’s not his third arrest. Young has been arrested 18 times in the past. His prior arrests include robbery, burglary, assault, and grand larceny. The Post Standard has details of some of the arrests.
Talarico Young, of 1811 E. Fayette St., was pulled over by Syracuse police officers responding to a “shots fired” call on Carbon Street on March 12, 2012, at 2:55 a.m., according to court papers.
Young had run through a stop sign, according to a report from a responding police officer, who then searched his car and found a loaded .44 magnum handgun in the backseat.
Young was charged with failure to stop and criminal possession of a weapon. However, the weapon charge was dismissed after the court found that police had obtained the weapon “by means of an unlawful search and seizure.”
In January, Young pleaded guilty to the traffic charge and was sentenced by Judge Joseph Fahey to time served.
In 2008, Young was arrested on drug and weapons charges after police executed a search warrant at his home, according to court papers. He was sentenced in Onondaga County Court to a year in jail after he pleaded guilty to seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. (Read More)
He was also arrested in 2002 at the age of 16 for pulling a gun on a guy and demanding money, and for stabbing a man on another occasion.
Notable is that Young never seemed to have much regard to gun laws, and a complete outlaw of all guns wouldn’t have prevented him from stabbing his victim to death. But maybe if Johanna Pagan had a gun she would be alive today.
