For a good number of Americans Tax Freedom Day fell on April 18. Here in New York that day falls a few weeks later – it’s today, May 6. The only state that’s worse is Connecticut, according to the Tax Foundation. I’m not sure how New York missed the “top” spot since it has the highest tax burden in the nation. It’s business tax climate leaves quite a bit to be desired.
New York ranks 50th in the Tax Foundation’s State Business Tax Climate Index. The Index compares the states in five areas of taxation that impact business: corporate taxes, individual income taxes, sales taxes, unemployment insurance taxes, and taxes on property, including residential and commercial property.
Too bad Governor Cuomo doesn’t spend his time bringing tax relief to this state instead of just blowing millions of dollars on an ad campaign.
