He Must Be Getting Desperate

President Obama was once very protective of his children, and wanted to keep them out of the public eye as much as possible. Now things have changed. He must be feeling a bit desperate.

A new Internet ad by the president’s reelection campaign features a portrait of the first family asking supporters to “help the Obamas stand up for working Americans.” The appeal, a departure from the typical Obama messaging, provides an early glimpse of the role the president’s wife and daughters are likely to play in his campaign.

In the months to come, political strategists expect to see the first family used as a political asset.

“The value of the family is enormous,” said Democratic pollster Celinda Lake. “The more you know this family and the more you think of Barack Obama in these terms, the harder it is to vilify him.”

Michelle Obama also said she enjoys campaigning and the Obama girls are “up for the rigors” of the campaign trail. Maybe they are. Who knows? Rick Santorum has had his family out there on the campaign trail, so we may want to temper our judgement here just a bit.  Then again, Santorum’s had his family by his side throughout the whole process, so that’s nothing new. This just seems to smack of desperation on behalf of Obama. He can’t run on his record, so he’ll pull whatever he thinks it will take to win out of his hat. It’s not at all surprising, seeing that he’s spent most of his first term on the campaign trail.
