Don Surber offers some advice to Republican candidates that they all should heed. They always let reporters get the best of them - rather than changing the subject when asked questions that have nothing to do with the number one issue of the day, they respond and give the opposition plenty of ammunition. They really need to learn the art of changing the subject.
From Rick Perry: “I support the federal marriage amendment and I also support the same with the issue of abortion.”
What the heck, man?
These are not issues that will win. The economy is. [...]
Shaddap about it.
Unless you want to lose and live in a socialist state, stick to the economy.
Here is how you deal with the questions.
Reporter: What do you think about the 1964 Civil Rights Act?
Answer: That was so long ago, the Cleveland Browns were the champions of the NFL and unemployment was 5%. I cannot promise Cleveland the Super Bowl, but I can promise you a lower unemployment rate when I am elected president and the economy is allowed to grow.
Reporter: What do you think of gay marriage?
Answer: No thanks, I already have a marriage. I promised to love and honor my spouse and I can promise you a lower unemployment rate when I am elected president and the economy is allowed to grow.
Reporter: Is homosexuality a choice or genetic?
Answer: That’s above my pay grade, as the president likes to say. But unlike the president, the economy is not above my pay grade. I can promise you a lower unemployment rate when I am elected president and the economy is allowed to grow.
