One would think the folks in the White House would tighten their belts just a bit. But no, the formal state dining room isn’t good enough for the Obama’s first state dinner. They’re erecting a tent big enough to accomodate 400 guests on the White House south lawn. And it will be heated, too!

The Telegraph reported:
Whereas President George W. Bush would hold his 140-person dinners in the formal state dining room, the Obamas have broken with recent tradition by taking a “big tent” approach that will accommodate 400.
Secrecy surrounds the event with the White House jealously guarding details of the guest list and menu, though produce from Mrs Obama’s new vegetable garden is expected to be used and curry is suspected by some to be on the menu for the first time.
Deepak Chopra, the billionaire pioneer in New Age spirituality, announced on Twitter that he would be flying to Washington to attend and was “V honored to be invited”.
Oprah Winfrey, the talk show hostess, is strongly rumoured to have been invited and there is speculation that George Clooney and Brad Pitt will attend what has been dubbed “Washington’s equivalent of the Oscars”.
According to the well-connected Hollywood blogger Nikki Finke, the former DreamWorks partners Steven Spielberg, David Geffen, and Jeffrey Katzenberg will be at the dinner.
One Hollywood figure will definitely be there – the WME Entertainment “super-agent” Ari Emanuel, brother of the White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and the model for the profane, obsessive agent Ari Gold in the television series Entourage.
I think we should charge admission. While we sit around our kitchen tables, worrying about the economy, the Obama’s are living lavishly on our dime.

Typical despotic behavior. When the populous is suffering, they push the pedal to the metal. How wonderfully exemplary, a model Kim Jung Il would applaud.
What do you expect? He figures he might as well enjoy it while can because he’s getting fired in 2012. Maybe he’ll really screw up and we can fire him in 2010 after we fire the lapdogs, Blue Dogs, and RINOs.
