Figures – Scozzafava urges supporters to vote for Owens – Unions throw support behind Owens
ByI can’t for the life of me understand why Dede Scozzafava insists on calling herself a republican. Americans can rest easy, Dede will continue to be a problem for New Yorkers in the state Assembly, but at least she won’t be foisted on the rest of you. By encouraging her supporters to vote for Owens she’s encouraging support for the radical agenda of Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama. So much for the respect she earned for suspending her campaign. Let this be a lesson to the GOP elites.
Via Gateway Pundit, The Watertown Daily Times reported:
In her statement Saturday morning, the assemblywoman explained the reasons behind her decision: “It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so.”
During the day Saturday, she began to quietly and thoughtfully encourage her supporters to vote for Democrat William L. Owens.
Ms. Scozzafava finished a distant third in the latest Siena Research Institute poll with 20 percent support of likely voters. Her opponents, Mr. Owens and Conservative Douglas L. Hoffman, garnered 36 percent and 35 percent respectively.
In related news, now that the unions don’t have two democrats to choose from, they are free to give their full support to Bill Owens.
The Post Standard reported:
Owens scored three big endorsements. He was endorsed by the chairman of the New York Independence Party and United Auto Workers CAP Region 9, both switching from Scozzafava. And Owens picked up the support of the state’s largest labor union, the New York AFL-CIO, which had stayed out of the race until now.
[...]
But now there is a new dynamic, only two days before the election.
The New York AFL-CIO had not made an endorsement in the race because of the split in labor’s support. The union has about 80,000 members and their families living in the 23rd District.
“While Dede Scozzafava was in the race, the organized labor movement was evenly divided in its support of Ms. Scozzafava and Bill Owens,” Denis Hughes, the union president, said in a statement.
“Now that Dede Scozzafava has dropped out of the race, labor’s choice to represent the 23rd Congressional District is crystal clear,” Hughes said. “Bill Owens has the full support and resources of the New York State AFL-CIO at his disposal.”
Those resources will mobilize today, with volunteers heading across the 11-county district to reach members by phone and in door-to-door visits.
Bill Owens has let the grass roots supporters of Doug Hoffman know what he really thinks of them.
Owens released a statement Saturday night in which he blamed “Republican ideologues” for driving Scozzafava out of the race, “proving that the Republican Party has been co-opted by extremists who are solely committed to their partisan principles.”
Owens added, “This exemplifies the problems that partisan ideology has created in Washington. A strong commitment to a partisan right-wing agenda will only amplify the problem; it is not a solution. Instead of strengthening the partisan divide in our country, we need to find bipartisan solutions that will address the challenges we’re facing in order to move our country forward.”
He just praised Scozzi on the local news. Of course he would. He, and so many like him in Washington simply don’t understand that it isn’t “republican ideologues” that changed this race. It’s average Americans who are fed up with democrats and establishment republicans.

As I’ve posted earlier. Good riddens Dede! Does the word traitor resonate? This is not shameful to her in the least, because this is who she is. She needs to be thrown out of the Republican Party. Where’s Newt now? She’s a turncoat that has now shown her true colors that if had made it to D.C. would only strengthen what conservatives are eradicating.
