Dilemma: What’s a mom to do? Creepy President to deliver speech to all public school children! – Updated
By Lonely ConservativePresident Obama will be delivering a speech to all public school children on September 8, 2009. Click here for a “Menu of Activities” for teachers of children from PreK to Grade 6. Service Wire has more information. Here’s a sampling of questions for the children:
What is the President trying to tell me?
What is the President asking me to do?
What new ideas and actions is the President challenging me to think about?
September 8 is my kids’ first day of school. The address is to be delivered at 1:00 PM. Do I pull them out of school on the first day? My younger son is starting Kindergarten. I don’t want to wreck his first day of school (not that Obama won’t wreck it.) My husband thinks I’m blowing this out of proportion. He said our kids can withstand a 10 minute speech by Dear Leader. A friend of mine isn’t so sure, she said if the kids can’t talk about God in school she sure doesn’t want Obama talking to her kids in school. I second that.
I’m tempted to call our church and enroll them in school there. But they like their school and should be free from indoctrination. I will call our school to find out if they will definitely broadcast the speech.
Here’s video of Dear Leader telling student reporter Damon Weaver about his upcoming speech to America’s children.

Addendum: In the 2 1/2 years my son was in school while George Bush was president I never noticed any Bush propaganda in the school. I once saw a poster made by a student titled “Why I Hate President Bush”. I didn’t bother reading the rest of it.
Update: I almost forgot about this creepy child indoctrination video from last fall. Thanks to Legal Insurrection for the reminder.
If my kids come home singing something like this you’re going to see a morning post begging for donations for private school tuition.
But seriously, as for public education being “free” – ha! You haven’t seen the “school tax” portion of my property tax bill. The same bill I paid before my kids were born and before they were in school and will continue to pay until I die or move out of state. That makes it a bit unaffordable to cough up just as much to send the kids to private school. Which is why I’m a proponent of private school vouchers. Then the “free” schools would have to compete with the private schools. And parents who don’t have the financial means of the Obamas and the Kennedys of the world would have a choice as to whether we want to send our children into indoctrination camps.
Update 9/2/09: I called the superintendent’s office of my school district and the woman I spoke to had not heard about this. She sounded surprised. I then called our school and was told it is up to each individual teacher whether to show it or not. She didn’t know which teacher is showing it and said I could send in a note saying I won’t want my children watching. For clarification, I asked if this was a school-wide event and was told no, it is not. I get the impression that this is a pain in the butt Dear Leader is imposing on our schools, especially on the first day which is hectic enough as it is.

C:
“If President Reagan was the first, then why does the letter signed by Arne Duncan on the .gov website state that this is the very first time a President has addressed school children like this?”
OMG! Did you know there was NO INTERNET back then! And NO C-SPAN! Both Socialist ideas – Spreading information to the masses.
“In the 2 1/2 years my son was in school while George Bush was president I never noticed any Bush propaganda in the school.”
THATS because Bush wasn’t too techie. HE went right to the schools and spoke to the kids in person. All of the speeches are on the bush white house archieve site. He went to a few elementary schools a Year. So did Laura. He told the little kids – War Is Good. Look it up. It’s all out there on this SOCIALIST Internet.
Yeah, and Barack and Michelle Obama have gone to schools to read and talk to kids since the inauguration. I haven’t complained. That’s different than broadcasting a message to the kids, with a lesson plan from the Dept of Ed asking the kids how they can help their president!
Liberty, I completely agree that there are many things going on right now that are being ignored in the media. It is a fact that mainstream news is owned and operated by corporate interests, and for the most part, tend to have a liberal skew. That is why I do not watch, or at least not take seriously, mainstream news outlets. I gather information from independent news sources and blogs. Both conservative and liberal. It’s important to try and get a full view and then make up your own mind. Everyone has an agenda, it’s important that we don’t align ourselves with one side or the other completely. Sure, lean one way or the other, that’s how it goes. But don’t trust in any side fully. Make up your own mind.
jmbluechip…that’s because the first sentence is laden with sarcasm.
A reasonable approach from our District in Florida: Nothing will be broadcast during school. The speech will be recorded and a link provided on the District website for children and parents to watch at home together, if they so choose.
Those of you who are planning on keeping your children out of school on Tuesday are doing them a great disservice.
At best, they’ll hear the President deliver an inspirational speech. At worst, they’ll learn how to disagree without being disagreeable.
Thanks to you, they’ll get neither. For shame!
This is nothing but pure vanity! This man has nothing to share about how he got where he is. It was handed to him by his joining with some very powerful liberal/socialist people! Other than success academically, he had no other qualification. People were played and led by someone who is a wolf in sheeps clothing! He could not even head a corporation with his qualifications!
The other presidents were not tied to the associations of this or were they trying to change our entire country to go against the bible!
Loretta,
You are everything that is wrong with this country. Nothing but ignorance and anger.
You had no problem when Bush lied to your face about WMD, when he stripped away some of the freedoms that millions of Americans died to obtain and when he took us into wars that are unwinaable so he and his friends could make millions of dollars.
No, you hate Obama because he wants to feed people, give them preventative healthcare, rebuild roads that the last 5 presidents have let slide into ruin.
I wish I could be there when you stand before God on Judgement day and you try to explain why you did not think you had to help the poor and needy.
I am sure God will agree that when Jesus taught about loving everyone, he didn’t really mean the gays, or the liberals or the socialist wellfare moma’s .. he was only talking about some of the White Christians that live near you.
Christianity is fragmenting and falling apart because of hateful people like you picking and chosing who is worthy of God.
Read Matthew 7 and pray for your soul, for you exhibit nothing of Christ in your life right now.
Wow Michael, from Loretta’s e-mail, your take away was that she doesn’t want to help anyone, that she is only talking about white christians.
You are missing the point of this whole blog. Maybe you should go back and read this from the beginning.
Maybe you should be reading Matthew 7 yourself and learn tolerance of others.
Just a thought…….
Also Michael,
Loretta doesn’t sound like she is the “hateful” person, that would be you.
She just sounds scared, like the rest of us, with the direction that Obama is taking this country.
As far as history and the polls are concernedwith feeding the poor and helping the needy, conservatives give far more from their own pockets, while liberals give far more from others’ pockets…
Roy, “But don’t trust in any side fully. Make up your own mind.”
I don’t. That’s just the point: this president wants me to abandon all critical thinking and trust that he is going to take care of me out of some sense of benevolence and social justice. My considered opinion is that it is neither: it’s about power, it’s about making me go to the government for permission for just about every decision in my life. News flash: I do not fear life and I do not ask–nor will I permit–ANYONE to make life safer and happier for me. That is MY life. That is MY decision. That is my course on which to fail, if I choose. If he wants to go save the world, go save those people who fear so much. But leave the rest of us alone. His desire for so much power, so fast and so vast, should concern anyone who values individual rights. No bomb thrown about Bush is going to change what Obama is and what he wants to accomplish. I don’t think anyone here is asking you to like or trust Bush—we’ve moved on to Obama now, and there are legitimate concerns about where he’s taking us. In light of this “lesson plan” and the various school plays, etc., WORSHIPING the man I am MORE concerned than ever. That does not belong in a public school, for either side. I find that loathsome. Let’s say for a moment (although I do not believe it, but in the name of civil discourse…) that Bush & the Patriot Act was really some intrusive abuse of power and civil rights—is Obama not, then, magnifying that a hundred fold at warp speed and most people seem not to care? What is the difference? A cult of personality? No. I reject everything this man is trying to do, because I have long educated myself on what I believe and WHY.
It’s too bad we can’t meet for coffee and debate for hours; a comment box is really inadequate to cover years’ worth of building an epistemology. But I appreciate that you’re not throwing bombs and fleeing (like Michael, who is tossing out liberal talking points like “unwinnable war” without qualifying that opinion at all).
LC, Obama and his communist comrades (oh, nobody deny Van Jones!) has been great for your blog–it’s rockin’ these days. Libs seem not able to resist you… I’m going to create a personality cult around you any minute.
Thanks, Daneen. Yes, the trolls don’t like me very much, do they? Must mean I’m doing something right!
Did all of you read the speech? It’s right here on the internet. Please read it – the whole text- before claiming to know the content.
As a Christian, a mom, and a teacher, I think that a speech that encourages studying hard and staying in school is a good thing, whether said by Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, and so on. There are no hidden messages or political doctrines in this speech. I looked. Also, no one has to write a letter to the President. Why is it that when Bush (sr.) asked the students to write him a letter after his speech, telling him how they could help him with educational goals, it wasn’t a problem? Just so you know, I also read that the part about the letter has been changed in the classroom activities handout.
Please, read something before condemning it!
In case you didn’t notice, this post was done before the speech was released, as were most of the comments. I have since posted a link to the speech itself.
