Pelosi and Hoyer: Just who are you calling un-American?
ByNancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer have some chutzpah! Calling the thousands of Americans showing up at town hall meetings across this great land un-American! The opening line to this little op-ed in USA Today is as bone-headed as you would expect from a couple of knuckle heads.
Americans have been waiting for nearly a century for quality, affordable health care.
What?! Are they suggesting that we had better quality health care a century ago? Have these people lost their minds? I’ll just have to set that one aside for now.
These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.
Just who are they talking about? Could it be the thugs in the video below? (via Townhall)
Perhaps they’re talking about President Obama himself – calling on his army to go to these meetings and stir up trouble while “pushing back.” Is it Linda Douglass for defending her call for snitches to report fellow citizens to the White House?
It can’t be the thousands of Americans carrying homemade signs, with messages as varied as the indivuals who make up this great nation. But what about those with the uniform signs paid for by special interest groups? What about the thousands carrying signs who are on the payroll of special interest groups!
Maybe it’s the leftist thugs pushing and stomping peaceful protesters for daring to oppose Dear Leader. Sounds pretty un-American to me. And how about including illegal aliens in the United States Census? That’s about as un-American as you can get.
We the People know who the un-American are among us. Statism is un-American. Collectivism is un-American. Socialism is un-American. Supporters of those isms are un-American. Representatives who refuse to meet their employers are un-American. Representatives who shout at or talk down to their constituents are un-American.
Pelosi, Hoyer, Obama, and their ilk will soon find out what real Americans think of their tactics. Whatever happens, they will go down in history either as dismal failures, or the ones who finally destroyed the great experiment in liberty known as America. Until then, those of us they call un-American will continue to loudly oppose the extremely un-American actions of this extremely radical president and congress.

Note that whenever Obama, Emanuel, or Gibbs are asked about why polls show SO many people oppose their misguided Cap-n-Trade and Obamacare proposals, they ALWAYS segue-right-into “we need to educate the public…”.

Yeah, it’s almost as bad as a vice presidential candidate talking about “real America” in her speeches, suggesting that there are some Americans who aren’t real Americans. It also reminds me of Michelle Bachman calling Obama and most of Congress Un-American. Or how about the countless conservative pundit loudmouths who would gleefully call us libruhls Un-American for even daring to criticize Bush administration policies.
I won’t stand by what Pelosi said. I don’t think the people showing up and crashing the town hall meetings are Un-American, I just think they’re missing the point. Basically, they’re being fed misinformation and instructions on how to disrupt the meetings. Showing up and giving your input is one thing. Showing up and shouting down anything that moves in an all-out attempt to make the meeting NOT HAPPEN is quite another thing. While I won’t call it Un-American, I’ll certainly say that it isn’t helpful in any way.
If you want to educate yourselves on the actual text of the bill, then come to these meetings and make your voices heard based on legitimate concerns, I applaud that and encourage it. However, I don’t think any genuinely critical examination of this bill will reveal rationing or killing of babies and grandmas as some would have you believe.
