Wake america president obama wants to raise taxes on the rich, hollywood and his media friends are paid millions of dollars in wages and support the president and his ideas, so that means they don’t mind paying higher taxes, so lets make sure everybody enrolls in the government run health plan no exception. anyone who attempts to get health care outside of the plan will have to pay a fine of one million dollars for every incident, along with higher taxes on the wealthy there should be more then enough money to pay for quality care for all americans.

That must mean that people who don’t have children should be exempt from paying school taxes. After all, as someone who doesn’t have children, and probably will not, I’m being taxed to pay for the eduction of the children of other people. That would be unconstitutional, according to the statement above.

I don’t believe that there would be absolutely no doctor to treat me. Might I have to wait longer than I would under today’s system (if I were insured)? – Probably. My grandparents were from England. Over their lifetimes I heard about them needing to go to the doctor for one thing or another, and mostly everything was fine. Were there waiting times for some more complicated things, yes, but not unreasonable ones. The ads that you’re seeing on TV about situations that people with England’s medical system are cherry-picked worst case scenarios, which every system including our own system has, but they’re not the norm for most people. Do you wait longer for somethings there than we wait here? Yes. Not for everything, but for something. But just because they found one person who ended up waiting three years for a hip replacement doesn’t make it the norm. Some people may wait longer, but I don’t believe that what they’re advertising is what happens to everyone, because if it were the people wouldn’t put up with it. And I know the people in the UK having been there quite a few times.

As it stands now, I’d rather have to wait to see a doctor knowing that it won’t bankrupt me if I get a serious illness, than being told that I can’t purchase the insurance that will protect me, or even the insurance that would cover me for something unrelated to my medical condition.

And, in any case, I’m not trying to implement their system here, or any other country’s system here. I would just like some reform to our system that will allow me to even purchase insurance. I don’t want to take away whatever coverage you have. You shouldn’t have to give it up. And I’d love those things you’re proposing, but why didn’t President Bush give them any priority on his agenda? The Democrats didn’t hold Congress for both his terms in office. Yes, he had 9/11 and the aftermath of that to deal with, but we all know that presidents have to multitask. I just have no confidence right now that a GOP president would not just adopt a laissez-faire attidude with more of the status quo regarding health care, and that they would never require that people in my situation must be allowed to purchase coverage.

Anyway, thank you all for your thoughts. Hopefully some type of compromised system can be reached that will allow those who want to buy their insurance to be able to do so.

James, I’m sorry to hear about your plight and do hope you are able to find coverage. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. But I have to ask, what good is coverage if treatment is rationed and there’s no doctor to treat you? The republicans have been trying to offer free-market ideas to help all Americans who want coverage obtain coverage. But our president reminds them that he won, so he won’t even listen to their ideas. Wouldn’t you prefer a free market solution? Wouldn’t you like to be able to cross state lines to shop for a policy that will cover you wherever you live? Wouldn’t you like the opportunity to purchase an affordable plan that doesn’t necessarily cover everything, like Viagara and birth control, but at least provides coverage for what you really need? Those are the things I advocate, not a plan that’s failed everywhere it’s been tried.

Kate – Congress has had many years to come up with an alternate solution, so if this is the only way that I can be guaranteed the ability to purchase my own health insurance then I have no choice but to support it. Nobody has come up with an alternative. As I said, I’m not asking to be given my coverage, I just want the ability to purchase it.

Zorro – the legislators in my state have done nothing to make the insurers reluctant to insure me. The insurers have made that decision all on their own.

Sam – Health care may not be a right, but health is a necessity. Without it, you die. And unfortunately, the system we have built makes it impossible to survive a health problem without health insurance.

I’m only asking to be able to purchase insurance, not to have it given to me. I’d even purchase insurance that covered me for everything except the condition for which I’m considered uninsurable. But they won’t even offer that. My state doesn’t have a high risk pool, and while they do have a state plan to cover people with pre-existing conditions, the annual maximums are too low (ex: they’ll cover up to $1000 a year for in-patient hospital surgery).

I respect the right of all of you to have your own opinions, but I guess you have to be in my shoes to understand. I know I never gave it a second thought before it happened to me.

Lawyers and medical bills payed by a third party are what have driven up the cost of healthcare.

If we had to pay the fees ourselves it would be a far different story.

Most peeps feel it is some kind of obligation for Insurance Companies to cover any and all people incurring all the risks.

A hard as it sounds: Healthcare is NOT a right.

Dear Lonely Conservative:
I’m not asking you to pay for my health insurance. I’m perfectly willing to pay for it myself.

But, the insurance companies are unwilling to sell me any. Why? Because I developed a medical condition a few years ago. This was not the result of any lifestyle decision on my part. The doctors say it was most probably caused by genetics and some chance probability.

And it’s not that they won’t cover my condition. They won’t cover me for anything. Not a broken leg, not an ear infection, not a torn muscle. They won’t cover any of me.

That is far from the best health care system that the world has ever seen.
