How to ruin a perfectly fine weekend – read about Obamacare
By Lonely ConservativeI lost count of the number of boys here at our house today to celebrate my son’s birthday today. They did everything they planned – swimming, 4 innings of baseball and a shirts-and-skins basketball game. Some of the boys went home, then more boys showed up. After the sun set and it cooled off we built a fire. A perfect day all around…until I read this.
The bill also proposes requiring individuals to own insurance, mandating businesses to provide insurance or pay a fee to the government, creating state insurance marketplaces where people can compare and buy plans, and providing subsidies for low-income individuals to buy coverage. The bill comes from the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
The contours of the draft legislation, which did not include specific dollar figures or numbers, match up with the outline of a bill that first leaked last week. As expected, the bill contains some of the more liberal options that the Senate will consider.
But it’s worse, much worse than what Politico reported. Ed Morrissey took the time to look over the bill. You aren’t going to like it. Not one little bit.
From the bill:
(1) IN GENERAL – A State shall keep an accurate accounting of all activities, receipts, and expenditures of any Gateway operating in such State and annually submit to the Secretary a report concerning such accountings.
(2) INVESTIGATIONS – The Secretary may investigate the affairs of a Gateway, may examine the properties and records of a Gateway, and may require periodical reports in relation to activities undertaken by a Gateway. A Gateway shall fully cooperate in any investigation conducted under this paragraph.
From Ed:
“Gateway” means “provider,” and this appears to do away with that pesky Fourth Amendment, which normally requires search warrants and probable cause to access the records of individuals and businesses. Not under ObamaCare! Now, everyone belongs to the government … rather than the other way around. George Orwell, call your office!
Question for angry libs: Aren’t you the same people who quoted Ben Franklin after the invasion of Iraq and the Patriot Act? “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” Remember that? Why aren’t you protesting this? Or Porkulus? Or the government takeover or GM? We’ve given up more freedom and liberty in the past ninety days than we have in the past ninety years. Wake up people!
And what will this do for preventive care? How many people already lie or under-report risky behavior to their health providers? This is only going to make it worse. Who in their right mind is going to admit to their physician how much they drink or smoke, or how unhealthy their diet is, when they know the government can access their records on a whim, with no signed HIPAA release or subpoena?
Finally, we also need to go back and ask how are they going to pay for all of this? First of all, the number of uninsured in America constantly referred to by democrats and President Obama is a bold faced lie. Not only are they lying about the number of uninsured Americans, they’re also lying about how they’ll finance this boondoggle.
Sorry if I ruined your weekend, but , well, isn’t it better to ruin your weekend than to ruin your life?
Side Note: Last night my husband and I went to an annual clam bake. Other than the two years we skipped because I was hugely pregnant,we haven’t missed one in the past twelve years. Last night was the first time I have ever heard the partiers express any sort of concern over the state of our nation.People are getting worried. I can’t say I blame them.

Pretty much all the Libs I know are very wealthy; they have actually voiced to me that “at least this way people will get care. Not great care, but care”—knowing they will keep their personal Concierge Physician on retainer, to get what they need when they need it. They have their money; they really don’t care if these lofty ideals ruin everyone else’s lives. Isn’t that amazing, from the party of hearts and flowers?? Isn’t it amazing that it’s CONSERVATIVES who care if the “little people” get GOOD care??
At least we are hearing people voice concerns: even my favorite Lib boss. Tossing Israel under the boss has caused him to go verrrrry quiet but wonder who he just put in the most powerful seat on the planet. While I could slap him for doing it, I’m starting to feel a feverish sort of hope that a LOT of people are suddenly seriously re-thinking their votes. I just hope that something can be done with the “buyer’s remorse” I’m hearing.
I still cannot believe that people voted for Obama. I really cannot. It’s not like he hid this agenda–he was very forthright about every thing he wanted to do to the country. I cannot fathom why my countrymen just don’t get it. I guess I’m starting to understand how Hitler managed to pull things off in a sophisticated, educated, advanced society–same personality-cult-thing, and nobody cared what he really wanted to do because they thought he was a gifted speaker. Welcome to the twilight zone….

Really, it’s just another horror in the minute-to-minute siege by this
administration against our constitution, capitalism, and everything that made this country great. It is unrelenting, in every phase of governing. Welcome to the Fascist tyranny that will be the Obama dictatorship.
And in a story this morning:
“Obama has indicated he wanted to hear Democrats’ and Republicans’ ideas, but has also told them that he’s the president and they are among many elected members of Congress. They also were warned that the re-election campaign-in-waiting was revving its engines.”
People in his own party are now hearing “I won”, when they disagree. Well, pray a lot. I hope we don’t lose the country completely before 2012. And I refuse to swear fealty to the new King, men in black or no men in black.
