National Service – GIVE and SERVE
ByI thought the government was supposed to work for the people, not the other way around. Yesterday it was reported that the Senate was going to shelve the bogus bonus bill because they had better things to do. It didn’t take long for the Senate to begin debate on the Senate’s version of the GIVE Act.
Not only is this creepy and wrong, thanks to Michelle Malkin we now know it’s also horribly expensive. (Of course.)
My syndicated column today looks at the massive expansion of government-funded “national service.” Debate began yesterday in the Senate, where the $6 billion SERVE Act’s primary co-sponsors are Sens. Ted Kennedy and…Orrin Hatch. And there’s the rub. Since its inception, AmeriCorps has been a bipartisan-supported beast. The Evil Party and the Stupid Party strike again. If this does lead to the establishment of a civilian national security force, as Obama signaled during the campaign, Republicans who vote for this Trojan Horse will have no one to blame but themselves. Read full column.
Not only will we fund massive government waste, but they want to find a way to require our children to “volunteer” for whatever programs they deem appropriate. What if I refuse to allow my child to “volunteer”. If this service is mandatory, how will they enforce it? Will we be punished for not allowing our children to participate? Is anyone going to answer these questions? Heck, is anyone going to ask these questions?

This will be the new generation of the “Brown Shirts.” Heck, they have to get “volunteers” from somewhere, why not get the most vulnerable and impressionable from the populace and fill their minds with Fascism. In the words of an infamous Hitler, “Their minds are a clean and pure slate on which we can write the true pincipals of the Reich!”
Will they jail us Senior Citizens for not reporting for duty?
Can you imagine going to the FEMA camp to visit your parents?
They can bring families together. The kids who don’t volunteer, the parents who won’t let the kids volunteer and the grandparents who don’t report can all hang out in the FEMA camps. Isn’t that special?
