Why don’t they just shut up? – Updated

By Lonely Conservative

Every day President Obama and his staff make announcements on the dire straights of the economy. They’ve been doing it for months, years even. The more they talk, the worse things get. Wouldn’t it be nice if they would all shut up, say for two weeks, just to see what happens?

JR Dunn has an interesting article up at American Thinker about the oddness of the first week of the Obama presidency and the even odder reaction from his leftist supporters. You’d think they would be doing cartwheels, The One won! Why aren’t they dancing in the streets?

Dunn points out the string of missteps and mishaps since the inauguration, ending with the stock market dive.

It’s difficult to see, lacking an easy supply of fairy dust, how Obama could have avoided this. But it does underline something that has been overlooked throughout the current slump: the fallacy of the Economic Man argument. Human beings are not economic robots mindlessly following ironclad laws. They are, in Isaiah Berlin’s acute formulation, “Kettles that watch themselves come to a boil”. Most of the problems of today’s economy aren’t economic at all, but functions of mass psychology. We’d be far better off if people like Bernanke, Greenspan, and Obama himself weren’t continually quoted about how bad things are and how much worse they’ll get, if reporters who insist on using the verb “deteriorate” were treated the same as the Iraqi shoe guy, and if the president’s entire economic staff were given copies of Canetti’s Crowds and Power and Mackay’s Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds. Read full article.

Here’s the thing: they can’t stop talking down the economy because they need economic distress. That’s the only way they’ll be able to push through their radical agenda. Barack Obama won the election because of the economy, with a lot of help from the media who made him appear to be a centrist. But he and Congressional democrats owe the lefty nut-roots big time, and the left expects payback.

A tanking economy is perfect cover for enacting everything from the green agenda to national health care, especially while the media’s still on their side. Once they’ve successfully socialized what remains of the American economy there’s no doubt they’ll start singing a more cheerful tune.

Update: Thank God Robert Gibbs waited until just before the closing bell on Wall Street before his press conference today. Talk about doom and gloom. The Dow dropped something like 20 points after he opened his mouth. Had he appeared any earlier the slight gains of the day surely would have been completely wiped out.

Update 2: It appears Senator Jim DeMint agrees with me.

DeMint, speaking Jan. 27 at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., explained the Obama administration will “create crisis and widespread panic” just like its predecessor in order to get Congress to act expeditiously.

”I’ve been around long enough to know whenever someone tells me I have to make a decision right now, my response is no,” DeMint said. “That clears it up right away and I think more and more the Bush administration and now this administration knows that they’re not going to get a quick reaction out of Congress unless they create crisis and widespread panic. And that’s going to be their M.O. to get Congress to act.”

He also appears to agree with Rush Limbaugh.

“Well, it’s a good question and a lot of us are saying that,” DeMint said. “It’s not being picked up at all by the mainstream media and that’s why again, we’re going to have to take our message through you to the people, Rush Limbaugh, anyone who will talk about what’s really in the bill. We don’t need to make it up. It’s like they’re in a different reality. They’re talking about a bill, that when you look at it, there’s no resemblance to what they’re talking about.”

DeMint said it will take grassroots efforts to put the brakes on this stimulus package and he admitted he has seen it from constituents that are concerned about the bailout culture in Washington, D.C.

Thank God for Senator DeMint. We need more like him.

Saul Alinsky. We must keep our eye on the ball. Community organizer in Chicago in the 30’s. Using the communist principle that people fear change and must feel totally hopeless to embrace change.
Notice a key word here, “change”?
All the roads lead to Marx, so connect the dots and follow the red flag road to obamalot.

Furthermore—I personally believe that the Democrats already in power (Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd) knew all about the approaching financial meltdown and in the inner circle kept saying “Just hold…hold….try to hold it together until October” when it blew up and created the single crisis that decimated John McCain. I’m not sure they understood the depth and breadth of the approaching crisis, but I believe they knew it was coming and wanted to use it to usher their guy in. Emmanuel was running around the country at the same time creating crisis mentality in the party, urging everyone to abandon Hillary Clinton and support The One, the only One who could deliver the party to the white house. And don’t forget Nancy Pelosi’s vile, partisan attack on Bush and the Republicans when that initial emergency bailout was NOT supported by the Republicans. Why did that woman feel so secure, so certain about everything she was spewing? Because they knew it was coming, and had already manipulated the outcome, and prepared their defense/attack, methinks. .

The PEOPLE I speak to don’t think the sky is falling; but the Democrat party is heavily invested in this imminent “depression” and are–and will continue to–using it to push through the outlandishly expensive social programs they wanted to implement all along. It has nothing to do with economic stimulous–the American people are, flat out,, the most optimistic people on the planet; if our ‘government’ would stop screaming that we are all doomed, the economy would turn around pretty quickly. They just need to shut up and get out of the way. There is real crisis in the system, but not as big as the Dems would have us believe, and not for the reasons they are citing. Just look at what they consider “stimulus”–abortion helps us infuse cash into the system, I guess, and the $400 million inserted for new ATV (global warming causing) trails cancel out the $400 million to fight ‘global warming’ (!)

Pfffffffffft. They do, indeed, neet to shut up and sit down and let us heal ourselves. But I do support the abortion spending, seeing as it’s generally Liberal women who have them repeatedly. One way to get rid of the Left.

  4. Daneen, you’re right….they wanted and needed this to happen and they helped make it happen. Remember Schumer causing a run on IndyMac?

Everything they did AT THE TIME of the meltdown pointed to it; oh, okay, I’m a right wing nut. Whatever. I knew what I was seeing. It’s too bad the GOP didn’t, or didn’t have the moxy to say it out loud. It was a freight train already coming down the hill and they started positioning themselves to use it—-not stop it, not mitigate the damage. All about how to use it during the election and how to use the aftermath for Obama’s “first term” . And I don’t believe that Pelosi, Reid, Schumer and friends “misspoke”. Those damaging comments on camera were also deliberate (or these are actually the stupidest people on the planet. Hmmmmm…..).

These people ARE in a different reality. I think 2010 is going to be a very interesting election year. I hope everyone gets off the sofa and votes.

Is there a way that we, out here in America, can solicit the people in California’s 8th District to NOT RE-ELECT Nancy Pelosi?? She is a disgrace to our country. If not, since that is afterall “San Francisco”… I say we bring her (and her buddy Harry) up on charges of fraud, treachery, malfeasance, extortion, and treason. Where does she get off locking herself and her cronies up in her office and writing legislation without following the rule of law? Why the hell is everyone ’so afraid’ of her??? The woman is absolutely ABHORANT to this country!! How many people are there in the 8th District of California? I guarantee you….not as many as there are in this country that can’t stand to hear her voice or look at her face with it’s plastic, evil smile. She is an abomination. Literally. And she needs to go…. long ago.
