Spreading the Wealth vs. American Exceptionalism

By Lonely Conservative

The election is over and Barack Obama is going to be the 44th President of the United States of America. With any luck, he understands that the election result wasn’t about spreading the wealth or turning America down a more socialist path.

At a campaign event Barack Obama accused those who don’t want to ”spread the wealth” of being selfish. Naturally, nobody in the main stream media questioned such a statement. There was no analysis because they accept the premise. If you are not happy to pay more of your income so it can be given to others they believe you are selfish.

But what of the recipient of the products of the labor of another? Isn’t that person selfish? How is that person morally superior to the producer?

The “spread the wealth” system removes the incentive for both parties. Whatever you call it – socialism, communism, Marxism – it’s been tried time and again, with results ranging from suppression (of ideas, innovation, progress) to horror and democide.

American exceptionalism is not the product of equalization of outcomes, quite the contrary. American exceptionalism is the result of freedom, the freedom not only to succeed but also to fail. Let’s hope our President elect gets the message. You can send him the message by clicking here.

  1. CKA in Red State USA says:

C’mon, now. Hussein has spoken against “American exceptionalism,” hasn’t he?

After all, to be exceptional runs counter to Marxist ideology, doesn’t it?
