Obama could use a lesson in manners

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 12 - 2008

Barack Obama’s first exercise in diplomacy as President-elect was not a stellar success. As the leader of the party whose rhetoric turned President Bush into public enemy number one, Barack Obama went to visit his self proclaimed political enemy.

Always gracious, President Bush welcomed the President-elect to the White House, in the hope of ensuring a smooth transition for the sake of our country. The two men sat down for a private meeting. No aides were present, the conversation was meant to be confidential.

Within hours of their meeting Obama’s aides leaked details of the meeting to the press. This smacks of playground politics and reveals a stunning lack of maturity and disrespect for the office to which he was just elected. Lord help us all if this is a sign of things to come.

Now that the long campaign is over, perhaps Mr. Obama can take the time to meet with Miss Manners for a few pointers. Impudence may be a good way to win an election, but it will not serve him well as leader of the free world.

He and his family went to the White House at the invitation of President and Mrs. Bush. Barry repaid the gesture by singing like a canary. Expect nothing less after he’s sworn in on January 20th.

It’s not bad enough that they leaked the details; worse yet, they leaked a phony version of the details, and leaked it to pet MSM outlets which could be relied on to publish the phony details as gospel. More or less a reverse twist on the phony details being leaked by Republicans (to FOX News, of course) about Sarah Palin. (I sent a terse note to O’reilly on that one; I’m sure he didn’t even see it, but I felt better.) In the latter case, one can rationalize that this is Loserville scapegoating and hope that those doing it will get permanent billets in the Loserville Inn by getting exposed and blacklisted from ever holding a position of trust and confidence again. But the Ds - - ObamaDs, specifically - - why? Rank amateurism (the scariest alternative)? Making a show for the UAW and hoping Bush doesn’t take the bait and thus gets the blame for the fall of Motown? Stupidity? I am not encouraged for the near future of American Government. On Friday, Obama gives an embarrassing non-informative, uncommital press conference; on Monday, Obama people are leaking a phony story. Lord help us, it has only been one week, and the man technically isn’t event President-elect until December! Hey, folks, I was JOKING when I speculated that the first story on The Failed Policies Of The Obama Administration would appear before inauguration day! Or so I thought.

    This is interesting, L. C.

“No aides were present …” And then, “Within hours of their meeting Obama’s aides leaked details of the meeting to the press.”

How? What sort of details were these absent aides able to leak? And what verifiable examples of Obama’s “impudence” can you offer us? (Although I’ll admit that it’s awfully irritating when one of THOSE people start getting impudent instead of meekly cranking the cotton gin and smilingly fetching the juleps.)

Maybe your cohorts can take YOUR rhetoric all on faith, but some of us need examples.

… Which is also what why my view of President Bush’s performance is based on. Party rhetoric — no matter which party — should be conscientiously discounted and ignored.

I’m not ditto-head material, L.C., but I’m always open to reality.

Andrew, enough with your race baiting crap! Maybe you see the color of the man’s skin. Frankly, I don’t. None of my criticism of the man has anything to do with his race and you know it. Keep it up and I’ll delete your comments. It’s my blog!

Race baiting? My comment was a response to your use of the word impudence. Impudence isn’t behavior expressed between peers. It’s a word that describes behavior expressed by an inferior to a superior. Peers can be rude to each other or they can be arrogant or discourteous, but only kids and upstarts are impudent.

What’s more interesting is this: Here’s the Drudge header for this story:

“Bush Anger: Obama Aides Leak chat details.”

Okay, I read the story. Except for a moot exchange over the auto industry, where are the chat details? Where’s the anger? Two anonymous presidential aides make vague statements, but the only substantial comment — from the MyWay story (not a news source but a right wing organ styling itself as news) — is this:

“Perino said that Bush described the meeting as “constructive, relaxed and friendly.”

So my question remains: where’s the anger? Where’s the impudence and immaturity?

One more observation on race baiting. I don’t know about you, but I’m white. If you happen to be white as well, my comment is just a criticism of your use of an adjective that places Obama in an inferior position. Funny, but whenever I hear this race baiting charge, it’s from a rightwinger who’s stuck for an answer, so he/she resorts to impugning the questioner. Neat trick.

With Deep Respect and No Hint of Impudence,

    Andrew

That’s pretty insightful of you — I thought it was okay myself. Not nearly as dumb as a lot of Sowell’s stuff. I just don’t go in for stereotypes the way he does.

But if you think I’m an intellectual, it’s only because you don’t know me. If you did, you would be very very surprised. I guarantee it.
