Media Bias! What Media Bias?

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 30 - 2008 14 COMMENTS

If you happen to tell an Obama voter that there’s media bias they look at you like you’re a stark raving lunatic. I’m not kidding. People who watch the Obama Media really believe Barack Obama has a lot of experience and Sarah Palin is a complete dunce. They’re baffled when they hear that Sarah Palin is the Governor of one of only 9 states with a budget surplus, and so what if she is.

Apparently, these people believe that when Republicans are in charge a budget surplus just happens. Yet when things go wrong it’s the fault of Republicans. I suppose it’s not surprising if people’s only source of news is the likes of ABC News. This morning George Stephanopoulos gave credit to Barack Obama for the recent rally on Wall Street, starting with his 3:00 PM Friday leak of Tim Geithner as Treasury Secretary. As pointed out by Noel Sheppard at NewsBusters, Stephanopoulos failed to address any other possible reasons for the stock rally. Read the rest of this entry »

Just Call Me Crazy

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 30 - 2008 4 COMMENTS

Why is it that those of us who worry about communism are considered crazy, yet the fact that real communists are rejoicing over recent political and economic events is ignored? Do Americans really want to live under communism?

Most Americans recognize that the USSR was an evil empire, and all but the most radical left wingers know that life in Cuba isn’t something to emulate. Yet they don’t seem to make the connection that the common thread between these (and many other) regimes is Marxist philosophy.

I suppose most people are unaware of the devasting consequences of communism, or if they are aware they believe that somehow Barack Obama and the Democrats will be better at it than Stalin, Castro and Chavez to name a few. Or maybe they just don’t recognize communism when they see it, because the media provides good cover to the communists among us.

Whatever the reason, most people don’t seem to know or care, which makes it that much easier for the Marxists to win. You can call me crazy, but history tells us that when Marxists win everybody loses.

Bipartisan B.S.

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 29 - 2008 3 COMMENTS

Richard Reeves believes Obama’s “The One” to bring about a new age of bipartisanship (read story) because he’s thrown a few bones to Republicans, like keeping Robert Gates on as defense secretary. I would argue that’s just a wise move considering we are waging two wars while some of our other enemies are playing war games just south of the border. He also cites Obama’s call to the Democrats to keep Joe Lieberman as an ally. Again, a smart move in his attempt to gain a fillibuster proof majority.

Other than that, the only reason we’re going to see any bipartisanship is because the Republicans are wimps who will allow it. How many times has George W. Bush worked with Democrats? Just off the top of my head I can think of No Child Left Behind, Medicare drug coverage and immigration. Why didn’t the press applaud the bipartisanship of President Bush? Oh yeah, because they and the Democrats hate George W. Bush and would do anything to knock him down a peg or two.

So please, spare us the “Barack Obama will be the one to bring bipartisanship to Washington” BS. If there’s any bipartisanship going on it will be because the Republicans are willing to work with Barack Obama, not the other way around. And some of us happen to believe now is the time for more partisanship, not less. The Founders envisioned a two party system with checks and balances. Without partisanship where are the checks and balances? Or does that not matter any more?

Savages

I always avoid shopping the morning after Thanksgiving. It’s not worth it to me to spend hours waiting in line to save a few bucks. I’ll take a day or two off work and shop when things aren’t so hectic. I couldn’t believe it when I heard about the WalMart worker who was trampled to death by shoppers yesterday morning. The first thing I thought was “what a bunch of savages. Is this what Christmas has become?”

Police said about 2,000 people were gathered outside the Wal-Mart doors before its 5 a.m. opening at a mall about 20 miles east of Manhattan. The impatient crowd knocked the employee, identified by police as Jdimytai Damour of Queens, to the ground as he opened the doors, leaving a metal portion of the frame crumpled like an accordion.

“This crowd was out of control,” said Fleming, who described the scene as “utter chaos.”

Dozens of store employees trying to fight their way out to help Damour were also getting trampled by the crowd, Fleming said. Witnesses said that even as the worker lay on the ground, shoppers streamed into the store, stepping over him. Read full story.

The store is being criticized (by a union) for not having enough security. I don’t see how you can blame WalMart for this. What did they do wrong? Publicize a sale? It’s not the store that’s at fault, it’s the barbarians who stormed the store.

A little history lesson. The difference between a democracy and a republic. At present the United States remains a republic, per the intentions of our founding fathers. How long will the republic last?

The Non-Issue Issue That Won’t Go Away

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 28 - 2008 10 COMMENTS

No main stream reporter is willing to break omerta when it comes to questions about Barack Obama’s citizenship and birth certificate. Even Republicans are sticking to the code of silence. It really makes no sense, surely, if a Republican candidate had such an issue hanging over his head it would be on the 24 hour news cycle.

Does anyone remember hearing about Sarah Palin’s passport, or lack thereof? Where in the Constitution does it say the vice president needs to have a valid passport? Oh that’s right, it doesn’t!

The best summary of the whole birth certificate issue was written by Joe the Farmer (another Joe with the audacity to ask a question.) If you have concerns about Obama’s citizenship, you should read Why the Barack Obama Birth Certificate Issue is Legitimate. Simply because Factcheck.org says it’s a non-issue doesn’t make it so. In Hawaii, a person born outside the US can legally have a birth certificate on file with the Department of Health. Without seeing the actual document, it’s impossible to know for sure if he was born in Hawaii.

Which leads to the question, why doesn’t Obama just produce the document? Joe the Farmer can think of three possible explanations.

1. He was not born in Hawaii, and may not be eligible to be President;

2. He was born in Hawaii, but facts that may be derived from his vault copy birth certificate are inconsistent with the life story he has told (and sold);

3. He was born in Hawaii, and his refusal to provide the best evidence that he is a natural born citizen is a means by which to draw criticism of him in order to make him appear to be a “victim.” This would energize his supporters. This would also make other charges about him seem suspect, including his concealment about ties to Bill Ayers and others of some infamy. Such a clever yet distasteful tactic would seem to be a Machiavelli- and Saul-Alinsky-style way to manipulate public opinion. But while this tactic may energize his supporters, it would convince those who believe him to be a manipulator that he’s not only just that, but a real pro at it. This would indeed be the basest reason of all, and would have repercussions about his trustworthiness (both here and abroad), which Americans know, is a characteristic sorely lacking in its leaders.

If only the media would address this issue, Obama might have no choice but to produce his birth certificate. But they won’t, so he won’t.

We’ll have to wait and see what Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has to say on December 5.

Happy Thanksgiving

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 27 - 2008 4 COMMENTS

The other day I was looking through the papers my seven year old son brought home from school. There was a Thanksgiving assignment and he did a good job listing the things he is thankful for, Mom and Dad, friends, food, home and books. I was happy to see he included the military in the list. At the young age of seven he understands that the US military protects us so we can enjoy all of the other things on his list.

Even in these tough economic times there’s still so much to be thankful for. The terror attacks yesterday in India are a reminder that we haven’t had a terrorist attack here at home in more than seven years. It’s time to sit back and count our blessings, as there are so many.

If you want to know who our Founders thanked on Thanksgiving you should read What Every Child Should Know About Thanksgiving by Newt Gingrich. Just a little food for thought.

Best wishes for a safe, happy and healthy holiday! Enjoy!

The Ultimate Politician

Posted by Lonely Conservative On November - 26 - 2008 8 COMMENTS

All week the local news has been pre-empted by news conferences from the Office of the President Elect, which doesn’t officially exist. The media and pundits are swooning over the team of experienced centrists being put together by the inexperienced, radical leftist Barack Obama.

Some groups on the left are unhappy that he isn’t filling the cabinet with radical left wingers like himself. I don’t think they have anything to fear. He needs to look like a centrist or the odds of him being re-elected are slim to none. America simply doesn’t like radical leftists so he must pretend he’s a centrist. It seems even the Communist Party USA recognizes this fact, as they are calling for maintaining unity.

Barack Obama is the ultimate politician and he knows how to play the game. He’s so good at it many Republicans have joined the Obamalovefest. Janice Shaw Crouse summed things up brilliantly, arguing that the left’s buyers remorse is misguided.

What Obama’s critics are overlooking is that he is a former community organizer; he prefers to work under the radar, starting from the grassroots. Those who are looking at the top layer of the Obama Administration wanting to see a sign of the “second coming of Saul Alinsky” (as one blogger put it), are going to be disappointed. Those who watched First Lady Hillary Clinton set up little fiefdoms in all the government agencies to push the policies of the Beijing Platform for Action and those who observed Senator Barack Obama utilize ACORN to build a political machine that spread from Chicago throughout the nation will recognize the strategy and tactics of master manipulators.

Even though they differ on many other fronts, Barack and Hillary are kindred spirits when it comes to using the government’s legendary “soft power” and the national “bully pulpit” to achieve their personal and political ends. So, while the nation is lulled into thinking that Barack is moving to the center, his minions who are actually carrying the water will be hard-core “progressives” moving the leftist agenda forward largely out of the public’s sight in the mid-level management positions of the government’s sprawling bureaucracy. Much of the real action will happen behind the scenes in thousands of small decisions and initiatives that will remain nearly invisible until — like the explosion in the number of mother-only families that followed from Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty — the transformation of their cumulative effects begins to emerge.

Barack Obama didn’t come this far to  give up on his core beliefs. He’s just smart enough to know how to get things done without drawing attention. Again, he’s the ultimate politician, or as Ms. Crouse put it, a master manipulator.
